Visited this place for the first time. Atmosphere and customer service was great. Food was quick. We arrived around just after opening. There were only a few customers in the establishment. I tried to order the 2 meats and 2 sides. However the shaved roast beef they were already out of. On a Saturday right after opening they already were out of a meat. The mac n cheese seemed as if the flour was not cooked down or they added too much to the rue. It was not pleasant. They say they offer 4 sauces but two are a ketchup and a mustard with a kick. The other two sauces sauces lack luster. They need work foresure. The corn bread they give a lot of but it was refrigerator cold and they give you cold butter. This makes it hard to be put on the bread. Also was this cooked fresh or did we get day old cold? The pulled pork was flavorful but actually better without the sauce. The brisket was juicy and had some flavor but I have had better. The pickles they provide with the meal were good. I will return to try them again in the future but currently if someone was to suggest bbq, I would go elsewhere.

I had brisket and the chili lime wings. The sides were candied bacon and mac and cheese. The brisket looked dry, but it wasn’t. Very good favor on both. Wings were a tad bit salty. Candied bacon was tasty. A tad more charred then I would have liked. The Mac and cheese needed a touch more salt or maybe use seasoning salt instead. Add a touch of smoked paprika, pepper and garlic. It would be perfect. The service was good. Atmosphere was a whole vibe. I will go back for the wings.

One of the worst meals I have had in a long time. The Brisket was tough, dry and gray – Literally could not cut through it with a knife. The Mac and Cheese was flavorless – Boxed Kraft is more satisfying. And the Cornbread was like eating sawdust. This place does not know how to prepare bbq. Don’t waste your time.

My partner and I were hopeful about this new local spot, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. While they apparently do have smokers, the results suggest the technique needs work. The brisket lacked a smoke ring and had a uniform crust that didn’t seem authentically smoked. The pulled pork was okay but missing that genuine smoke flavor you’d expect from traditional BBQ.

The side selection could use more variety…three of our four sides were cabbage-based. The kimchi was good and the mac and cheese was okay, but the braised cabbage was disappointingly soft and rubbery with an odd taste. The coleslaw didn’t taste fresh and had no hint of the advertised avocado. We’d love to see classics like regular or sweet potatoes added to the menu. The cornbread was unfortunately very dry and overly sweet, and even the pickles had a strange flavor.

It was not busy when we were there, which may have contributed to the atmosphere feeling a bit off…large, spread-out spaces made it feel less cozy, and there are many TVs throughout, which I get may appeal to some diners, but not what we are looking for in a dining experience. The loud early 2000s playlist was also pretty bad and made conversation challenging.

On the positive side, the service was very friendly and our food came out quickly.

Smokehaus Ferndale has potential, but needs refinement in both their barbecue technique and overall experience before we’d return.

Absolutely love what the new owner has done with the place. Coming from the south, there’s an expectation to live up to ‘southern bbq’ but their spin on new aged bbq is something I can embrace. I love the touch of the wings and the Gouda Mac and cheese! The pulled pork has an unbeatable flavor and something you’ll want to have a double helping of! The cornbread reminds me of a southern treat where we used to warm up cornbread and add a little milk for a sweet and savory treat. The staff is highly attentive and friendly- the ambiance brings you a new experience something Ferndale doesn’t have. I genuinely enjoyed Smokehaus and hope everyone has a chance to experience it!

Having grown up in Texas and living there most of my life, I am VERY picky about BBQ. Especially brisket. I was so happy to find and try SmokeHaus. Their brisket is my favorite around. It’s got great smoke, is fork-tender, and the fat is melt-in-your mouth – perfectly rendered. Another sign of a good brisket is you don’t *need* BBQ sauce, it just makes it better. The sauces are great – I love mixing the spicy mustard with the Sticky Icky sauce. I have thoroughly enjoyed everything else I’ve tried. Having gone back several times that’s a lot. In addition to the brisket, I can recommend the shaved roast beef, pulled pork and chili lime wings. I also love the totally inventive cauliflower burnt ends (yes, they have something for the vegetarians). The smoked olives are my favorite app, but the pickles and blaze bites are also really good. My husband also loves the burger. And the cocktails? SO good. My favorite is the smoked old fashioned, but I’ve tried several others and liked them all. And the bartenders are all fantastic, especially Amy. We followed her from another restaurant and in addition to the food we love is a big reason we keep coming back. The vibe is comfy and reminds me of my Texas roots but not in a cheezy way. I also love that you can keep an eye on the game while you’re there. So, yeah – I definitely recommend SmokeHaus. They’re a slightly hidden gem in Ferndale and worth the find.

Went to Smokehaus within first weeks of opening. Every single thing I ordered was outstanding. From the fried pickles, to their brisket, sides, and even all of the fresh sauces the put on the table. There are not many proper BBQ spots around to begin with, and the pricing for all of the meats/sides/etc is fantastic and very budget-friendly. Great atmosphere for a drink, and super cool layout. Also literally the BEST cornbread I have ever had. I don’t know what this recipe is, but I need it. Do not miss out on this spot 5/5 – definitely recommend.

Wow! What a damn treat!!! We started with the backyard blaze cocktail… The smoked salt rim combined with the cocktail was phenomenal!! We started with the cheese curds and canopies and they didn’t disappoint. The sauce served with the cubed curds were a perfect pairing. Next we did the smoked brisket, cooked to perfection and the pork belly with candied bacon and Mac & Cheese. Brisket was cooked perfectly and I’ve never had a pork belly like this.. The crunchy skin with the tender pork belly was something I’ve never tried before and loved it! Mac & Cheese on point but I still am wanting more of that candied bacon!! Atmosphere was great, awesome bar on the upper level but enjoyed the garage bbq feel of the main dining room. They have a fun array of clothing and hats to choose from… “DAY DRINKER” I think it’s rare in the detroit area to find a good BBQ spot let alone in Ferndale. This easily puts slows to shame!! Will definitely be back when I need that BBQ craving! When you are looking for some good BBQ you should definitely check out the SMOKEHAUS in Ferndale!!

Had dinner at the bar on Friday! Service and drinks were great. The wings were amazing, and not breaded which I loved! Brisket and mac & cheese are also great! Will definitely be back again!

The chicken wings were great, as were the Mac and cheese, slaw and cornbread. My friend and husband also enjoyed their brisket. All the cocktails we tried were good too.
Excited to have a good bbq place in downtown Ferndale!
