This place served good food 18-24 months ago
We would go there the owner was usually there gave us good portions and nice pieces of brisket
Past 2 times we were there we noticed he wasn’t there , 2-3 ladies working in kitchen.
The place has gone totally downhill food is garbage brisket is more like big piece of fat with a bit of meat there hardly none. Wouldn’t feed it to my dog. 20$ for this . Take a look at pic you can see what kind of food they serve. I’d be ashamed to serve this to people. Maybe they take all the good cuts home after work the ladies working there feed the public the garbage portions of fat mostly. 1 strip of fat with hardly no meat 20$
Also got the lil beast double patty dry tasteless meat. 38$ total .

We used to come here all the time when it was Smoke and Ash. When Kelly sold, we had high hopes that the quality would be the same. Unfortunately; they have steadily gone downhill since.
Against our better judgements, we have given it about three tries since the changeover and each time has been consistently bad. The meat has the essence of flavor without actually having flavour; the ribs still had the silverskin on it and the brisket was so fatty it was more fat than meat. Don’t get me wrong – I love a good fatty brisket but this was too much.
The beans were hard and gritty from the brown sugar not having enough time to cook down and the cheesy potatoes tasted like the smell of the potatoes that have been sitting in a cupboard for so long that they’re starting to turn.

The front counter staff are absolutely lovely and the atmosphere is what you would expect from a BBQ joint located in an industrial park but when I was waiting for my food and I overheard a conversation about how they had never had bad bbq before now from another table? I knew I wouldn’t be back. Breaks my heart as we don’t have many options in the Tri Region for good bbq.

This place has good food and a lot of potential, but the biggest problem is that they’re rarely open. The hours are very limited, and many times when people come craving this food, the place is closed or there’s a sign on the door saying there’s a water main break.

If that’s the case, it would really help to update the answering machine or online hours so people don’t make the trip and waste gas.

It’s unfortunate because the place could do really well if it were run more consistently. Right now it feels like the owners just don’t care enough to keep regular hours.

A coworker and I ordered lunch here for the first time and it was top notch. Great portion sizes, delicious brisket/ smoked pork and the sides were bang on. Great job!

Update! Was in the area and wanted to see if the first time was a fluke and if I just had an under seasoned piece. Unfortunately that was not the case. This time around I went for brisket and the ribs. I was hoping it would be different. Boy was I wrong. Both the brisket and ribs were very under seasoned. I get it maybe it’s just me. But when I go to a BBQ joint I am expecting the meat to stand on its own with our sauce. Let me tell you these need it so make sure to grab some or at least salt and pepper packets. I will say they were both cooked beautifully, but the seasoning. Please Smoke n Spudz up the seasoning, big hunks of meat need lots of it. As before the sides were the highlight I don’t think they could be any better. But people aren’t usually going for the sides.

Aside from that the staff were pleasant and quick with putting together my box.

You can see my original review below. It’s really a solid 3 star. They may have a great in house sauce I am missing but like I said people are coming for the meat and I especially want to taste it and see what the flavor profile is. Unfortunately it’s bland.

First time visiting since the change of ownershipand name change from Smoke and Ash(was a regular at smoke and ash before). The good first, In my opinion the garlic fries and cheesy potatoes are better. There was a better flavor on the garlic fries and the cheesey potatoes were softer and had a richer(I assume more butter) flavor. The not so good. Having done a ton of briskets and pulled pork by request and for catering, I found that both the brisket and pork were cooked well, about the same as when it was the previous owners and smoker and ash. However the seasoning and flavor was not there. Thankfully the cutlery packs had salt and pepper I was able to use them to get to a level I at minimum expect from a BBQ place. I am hoping it was a one off and will be trying them again in the near future. I recognize that most places under season to play to a wider crowd but with such big cuts of meat this means that you end up with blander meat as a result, big cuts mean heavy on the rub. The sides were better than the meat and I don’t go to BBQ places for the sides.

Had the brisket and mash with gravy lunch special with a side corn bread. Pretty damn tasty!!! Amazing service and so quick! Thought I’d be waiting, but by the time I paid the giant portion was ready to go.

I first visited Smoke n Spudz before they moved locations and had the all-you-can-eat option. The brisket here is tender and pretty flavorful. The BBQ beans had a really flavorful sauce that I loved, though the beans themselves had a firm texture. The potatoes were also great, smashed, and topped with cheese. The table BBQ sauce is smokey, tangy, and sweet. Overall, this is one of the better places to eat in the Acheson area!

Not a bad little restaurant. The inside is just a couple tables, as the area is not very busy other then the surrounding businesses. The fries are soggy and very brown. The brisket sandwich was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. If you work in the area and are looking for something new then I do recommend trying this place for the meat. Staff is nice from what I can tell. Overall my experience was a 6/10
