I am writing to report a concerning experience at Smoke and Barrel in Ponchatoula on December 5, 2025. My friend and I were the only African American patrons in the bar and immediately felt unwelcome due to the behavior of the bartender.
The bartender stared at us uncomfortably, charged extra for a splash of cherry juice claiming “cherries were high,” and needed to speak with his manager. He insisted on holding our credit card for a single drink despite no open tab, and never checked back on us. We also observed him whispering and laughing with the manager while we were present, which added to our discomfort.
The overall treatment felt unprofessional and discriminatory. No customer should be made to feel unwelcome in your establishment.
This experience needs to be addressed.
