The best BBQ. The smoke ring was perfect. The meat melted in your mouth. The coleslaw and beans are excellent. The staff was marvelous

Without a doubt, one of my favorite BBQ places around the greater Austin area. Now I understand why Lockhart is the barbecue capital of Texas. Loved it. Turkey was fantastic. The sausage was my favorite. Smitty’s does it right. But remember, they do not have forks. Please don’t ask for one; you’ll embarrass yourself. You’ve been warned.

Such delicious brisket, sausage and chicken (weekends only). Cool Jose gave me and my guy a tour of the entire place and it’s like a museum in there, with all the kitchen antiques displayed. There’s about 7 ovens all over and they start the pits at 5 or 6 am. So cool learning about such an establishment! Will be back.

A fun experience, and the sausage was fantastic, but the food was not the best I’ve had in Lockhart. I’ve had Kreutz, Black’s, and Smitty’s now, and I’d rank this 2nd or 3rd behind Black’s. Glad they have Blue Bell at a great price though!

The lean brisket was tough, the moist brisket was dry. The sausage was good and the turkey had a good taste and it was moist. I recommend the mac and cheese and potato salad. The service was excellent.

A great place for the BBQ aficionado. My favorite part is that you can order by the slice. Thus, I enjoyed a couple slices of turkey, a couple slices of brisket, and so on, all part of the same order, sort of a do it yourself sampler platter. The long tables for seating give you a chance to interact with fellow BBQ travelers. Staff friendly and helpful.

Some of the best BBQ in Texas. These guys produce the most delicious, tender meats with the help of their old-school wood fired pit. The brisket was moist and delicious, with just the right amount of saltiness to it. They also have an awesome pork chop and juicy pork ribs. Cash or check only—but well worth the stop at an ATM. Don’t be put off if there’s a line to order, it’ll be worth your wait. This is real Texas BBQ. Come hungry!

Despite the very old fashioned butcher room most of the meats are good. My favorite are the pork ribs although they were on the small side. Sides are sold separately in the adjoining room. Some memorabilia in the back hallway near the restrooms.

Turkey was very good. Ribs were tasty but a little on the dry side this time. Prices were excellent here and so was the service.

First time trying Smitty’s and after living in TX for 14yrs I think I’ve found my fave BBQ. The sides were delicious and the meat was so tender and yummy. The meat is great without BBQ however they have a really good BBQ sauce too making it like it’s two different dishes you’re eating. The pit master was such a good guy. Very helpful and nice, he even gave each of our kids a couple of quarters so they could do the chicken egg prize thing on their way out. Their food was already a winner, but his kindness is what pushed it over the edge and making that drive worth going to get BBQ. I wish I had gotten his name so I could give him a proper shout out.
