I’ll never knock the taste of the food here….its always good…….but I just payed $2.49 for a side of hush puppies with my order…… and got 3 hush puppies…..3 of them. I’ll never order them again if that’s all I’m going to get…. That’s a pure waste of money. Those were supposed to be for my kids. I’m so disappointed.

Today was one of many times we have stopped here on our way to Chapel Hill. The food has always been fresh, hot, and delicious. The service is fast and friendly and the portions are generous. The restaurant is always clean. Of the locations we have sampled from Raleigh to the coast, this is the best in our opinion.

After going to church a group of friends and I went to Smithfield’s at random because it was open. What a great choice! You order at the counter but it is more like cracker barrel than McDonald’s. We had great service with the food. They brought the food to our table and came back later to ask if we needed refills. I heard that the Sweet Tea is good but being a damn Yankee I prefer unsweetened. The BBQ was excellent. But for me the real star were the hush puppies! INCREDIBLE! Hot and fresh and moist. It is about $15 per person and it’s a great value. I brought more home than I ate there. The whole visit was fast too which makes it perfect for travelers. We will be back! Highly recommended!

We had a great dining experience and even better dinner. Christina’s hospitality was stella. She bought our food to our table and asked if she could be of service. We requested dipping sauce. She recommended house made Ranch dressing. The ranch dressing is a hidden gem. The flavor is rich and goes great on French fries, mixed in the Brunswick stew and a great delight on the chicken tenders.
The barbecue sauce is a NC staple created with vinegar. It is a loose texture but great flavor.
The Cole slaw was fresh tasting and the potato salad has a great taste of homemade.
We observed Christine continue with great hospitality with all customers. She was genuinely considered and helpful. Then we saw her cleaning the restroom. Wow!
The food was hot but it’s Christina’s graceful service that will cause to return.

Absolutely loved this chicken and BBQ place. While there are many locations in central and eastern NC, this is a North Carolina original. Though it is technically a fast food restaurant, care is taken that customers receive quality customer service. Food is very fresh and flavorful. Expect authentic “down east” vinegar-based BBQ sauce with a distinctive kick. I had the dark meat “snack,” which comes with leg, thigh & one side. I went with the baked beans, and was very satisfied. These are NOT vegetarian beans, as they are laced with pork BBQ, and quite to my taste. The chicken was very tender & juicy as well. Plenty of free parking. We chose to eat outside on a picnic table, to accommodate our dog. Staff insisted on carrying our food outside, across the parking lot to the picnic table. My only suggestion for improvement would be an umbrella over the picnic tables. Two Tesla charging stations on site.

This restaurant was absolutely wonderful! There were folks looking into your needs. Always someone available. No “did you use our Kiosk” or “did you order from the App”….grrr.

Just stopped at Smithfield’s Chicken ‘n Bar-B-Q in Zebulon, NC, and we were so impressed! The food quality was top-notch and absolutely delicious. We had the BBQ sandwich — mouthwateringly yummy with that signature Eastern Carolina vinegar-based flavor — and the chicken tenders were huge, moist & perfectly seasoned
