The most amazing culinary experience! Traveled from n Detroit to Toledo to experience Smith & Williams Restaurant & Bar for Sunday Brunch during their soft opening. The food and service were both outstanding!! The manager stopped by twice to see if selections met our expectations. Our expectations were exceeded! The co-owner, Starex Smith, also visited our table and welcomed some suggestions.

We enjoyed the Flight of Deviled Eggs, with a variety of toppings, including crab meat, fried shrimp, bacon, and salmon. Also, had the creamy and very cheesy Spinach & Pico Cast Iron Skillet Dip that were served with warm pita toast points.

The Creole Pasta wasn’t on the Brunch menu, but they kindly accommodated our request! Wonderful creole spices that were well-balanced and not overwhelming.

The smothered pork chops were juicy and flavorful. The Big breakfast was huge and the biscuits melt in your mouth.

I had the shrimp and grits. They didn’t skimp the shrimp and the grits were creamy and cheesy, topped with the flavorful creole sauce.

For dessert, we ordered a Pineapple Upside Down Cheesecake. It easily feeds 4 people. It is literally a cheesecake with a slice of cake on top.

But the BIG HiT was the Bananna Pudding Cheesecake! OMG!!!! I would drive back just for another slice.

They have bar area and offers drinks. We had reservations for 12noon, and didn’t have to wait. Now, the interior is still in transition, but it already has a very relaxing and classy atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of brunch at Smith & Williams, and overall, the food absolutely delivered.

We started with the biscuits and berry compote, and they were nearly perfect—thick, moist, flavorful, and not heavy at all. The berry compote (blueberries and raspberries) was fresh and well-balanced. I personally preferred the blueberries over the raspberries, but that’s just a taste preference.

We also had the deviled eggs, which were excellent. They were boldly seasoned but stopped just short of being too much—any more mustard and it would’ve tipped over, but as served, they were flavorful and very well done.

For my entrée, I ordered the brioche French toast with bacon, scrambled eggs, and grits. The brioche French toast was outstanding—sweet but not overly sweet, crisp on the outside, never soggy in the middle, and absolutely delicious with syrup. Truly no complaints.

The scrambled eggs deserve special recognition—soft, fluffy, almost cloud-like. They were cooked beautifully. The bacon was maple bacon and leaned a bit sweet for my personal taste (I’m not a big sweet-bacon person), but it was cooked well and still enjoyable.

The grits were the only item that didn’t quite align with my preference. I like my grits thicker and more textured, and these were very smooth and creamy—almost cream-of-wheat consistency. Not bad at all, just not my personal favorite. My husband, however, loved them, so this is clearly a preference thing.

The breakfast potatoes were excellent—perfectly seasoned and not overly salty, which I really appreciated.

My husband ordered the blackened salmon over grits with pico. The salmon was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the pico added a bright, fresh contrast. Interestingly, I preferred the grits with the pico—it elevated the dish significantly for me.

THE SERVICE WAS IMPECCABLE!!!!

One note unrelated to the food: the parking lot and the walk to the entrance were snowy and icy. I would’ve liked to see that addressed, as it could be a safety concern—especially for guests with mobility issues.

Lastly, I have to say this: I’m a huge fan of The Hungry Black Man and the work he does in the community (iykyk). Supporting spaces that pour back into the community matters to me, and that makes the experience even more meaningful.

I drove in from Columbus—about two and a half hours—and I would absolutely do it again, especially to try the dinner menu. High-quality food, strong execution, and I would absolutely do it again, especially to try the dinner menu. High-quality food, strong execution, and a restaurant I’d confidently recommend.

Just what the city of Toledo needed. Good food, good drinks, good music & somewhere that’s not a bar. My experience was amazing. I loved my food except the cornbread dressing. Looking forward to going again.

We went yesterday to celebrate Valentine’s Day a day later for brunch. We got there around 1230 there was just a short wait to be seated and the dining area was very nice. The host and waitress were very attentive, they even brought us some complimentary corn bread due to the wait time which we did not mind. The atmosphere and music were enjoyable. Our deviled egg app was brought after our meal, of which they were very apologetic and gave us double for the delay . We tried two of their signature drinks, they were both very tasty. Our entrees were the shrimp and grits and the smothered pork chops with grits and eggs. The food was hot, well seasoned and delicious. The deviled eggs were the best. The prices were reasonable, our waitress was very helpful and checked on us frequently. Overall a great experience and looking forward to return for dinner.

This place is fantastic. We were lucky to get a reservation on Valentine’s Day. From the moment we walked in, the staff took care of us. Our server, Cherisse, was so sweet and funny. She made great recommendations about drinks, entrees and sides from their special VDay menu and kept checking in. When I said early on I already knew which dessert I wanted (banana pudding cheesecake), she told the kitchen to make sure they had one available for us! We had the meatloaf, candied yams, red beans and rice and teriyaki salmon, all made from scratch and delicious. Both the manager and the co-owner stopped by twice to make sure everything was good. Never had that level of service before and such great food. We can’t wait to come back.

Had dinner there and had the baked chicken. Atmosphere does not tell the story about the food. I felt I was in New York dining. The food is superb. Don’t let the location fool you. This is a top notch dining establishment with great service. Do go if you like southern food.

Went in for brunch and had a good experience, the host was pleasant and so was the bartender. The catfish and grits was great dish. Perfectly fried catfish and the grits were probably the best I’ve had in Toledo. Wait on the food was a little long but well worth it. Sorry to hear they won’t be here much longer, was hoping to make it in to try more. Good luck in the next venture!
