So happy that we found this wonderful diner- after literally years of passing through on our way from Statesville to Wilmington (and back) to visit our children/ grandchildren. This place provided the right mix of good “time tested” southern style “home cooked” foods and an atmosphere of southern hospitality and warmth.
The lemon pepper chicken is divine and the sweet yams truly scrumptious- as were the baby limas. Also loved the cornbread “fritters”.
Each staff member was so friendly and pleasant. We will definitely stop in again on our treks through this area. Most enjoyable! (And a special thank you to Ms Kim, who served us and shared conversation. A lovely lady!)

Today was my first time at Sly’s Diner. My Husband and I were looking for a good lunch spot on the way to the beach and they did not disappoint. Most restaurants are lacking good customer service and hospitality but Sly’s does not! You are welcomed warmly when you walk in and taken care of just like you’re sitting in your Mom’s kitchen eating! The food was just as delicious with it’s southern soul! If you’re looking for a great experience and great food make sure you stop by and get the macaroni and cheese!

This is a hidden gem, real southern food, wonderful staff, we went in for a late lunch, couldn’t have been more pleased. Highly recommend. My wife had baked lemon chicken, says it was delicious, i had the meatloaf it was also delicious. 10- 22-25

Disgusting food beware, beware, beware! I took my family here to dine in. When we walked in it was hot and humid. We were greeted by the lady with the cane sitting down. Our waiter with the bald head, red shirt and glasses, he had an attitude. It’s as if he wanted to get back to sitting down and watching TV because that’s exactly what he was doing before we walked in. Now about the food, it was absolutely disgusting . My son got the fried chicken, my fiance got the fried Chicken as well, and I got the dumplings. The fried Chicken was VERY DRY & cold, I thought the food was served fresh… But it was clearly already made and prepared just sitting. The so-called cornbread was flat like a pancake, tasteless, dry, and you can tell it’s been sitting for hours. What’s the point of having all of the those employees? I had high hopes for this place and truly wanted to support this black business but you truly can’t with our own people. Please y’all, don’t waste your hard earned money on this dump. I spent over $50 here. Totally not worth it. I say go to a place like Stephanie’s located in Greensboro, Mountain fried Chicken located in Hickory & Winston-Salem. Now their fried Chicken is delicious!

Haven’t been in months because the portions aren’t good.
I used to get lemon pepper chicken with Mac and cheese, corn, a roll and rice. Last time I got it they gave me 2 tiny bird legs. Not big enough to be chicken legs. They also wouldn’t put the chicken drippings all over my plate.
I deserve better. So we just make lemon pepper chicken here. Bigger portions at home for sure.
