I stopped into Slim’s Soda & Sandwich Shop of McNeill while I was in the area picking up something from Facebook Marketplace. Originally just looking to grab a Pepsi, I noticed they had a deli, and I’m glad I stayed. The staff greeted me right away, were super friendly, and helped explain the sandwich options.
I went with a panini-style tuna sandwich on wheat with mayo, mustard, double cheddar, and hard-boiled egg slices—and it was delicious. Perfectly grilled, full of flavor, and satisfying from the first bite to the last. I crushed the whole thing.
The place itself is charming. From the outside, it looks like a typical small-town gas station stop. But once you step in, it opens up into a rustic, old-timey soda shop setup. Decor includes antique TVs, wheelbarrows, and jugs—very farm and ranch-style, and really well done. The front half is a convenience store and deli, but in the back they’ve got a cozy seating area with public restrooms. Clean, welcoming, and full of personality.
Two very sweet ladies were working while I was there, and it’s clear they take pride in what they do. In a town with not many restaurant options, this place is a gem.
Side note: I’ve submitted nearly 600 reviews, and my photos and videos have over 17 million views on Google Maps. If this helped, give me a follow—it’s always appreciated!

We wanted subway for lunch but found this place and let me tell ya, it’s better than subway. That panini pressed sandwich is the bomb .com. If you’re going through picayune give this little place a try! You won’t be disappointed. Nice atmosphere, could use a little music but I like the quiet.

Amazing sandwiches and homemade desserts. I can’t praise the food enough. The atmosphere of the place is great. Kind of a general store look in the front, and tons of seating in the back. The employees are super friendly. Highly recommend anyone passing by to stop and hit this magnificent little roadside shop. Building itself is very old and charming. I will return here from the northshore of Louisiana, just for the food.

Pretty good sandwichs. I usually ask for extra meat because I like a stuffed sandwich but so far eating around three times it’s been good

I absolutely love their salads. When I came here about a year ago, the service was horrible. The young girls were too busy talking to make one shake, but now the service is amazing. The salads are HUGE and a great deal for the price. Their homemade goodies by the cash register are amazingly priced and delicious. They care about your order and made sure you know what it comes with as they’re making it. I recommend this place to everyone and anyone. They are kid friendly as well.

Pressed sandwiches are never hot and the cheese is still cold. Always out of something or not serving something that’s on the menu. Fly’s all over the place.
