The restaurant itself is tiny and charming — the building is shaped like a slice of cake, which must be where they got their name. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the chefs downstairs in the kitchen, who kindly took my jacket before we headed upstairs to the intimate dining area. The seating is small and cosy, with just one server managing the entire room, but she was absolutely brilliant — incredibly friendly, attentive, and professional, just as you’d expect in fine dining.
We opted for the six-course tasting menu, which began with a beautiful assortment of warm breads paired with two deliciously flavoured butters, followed by a mouthwatering amuse bouche. For starters, my partner and I chose a different dish each — scallop and lamb neck — and shared them. Both were bursting with flavour and beautifully presented, with perfect pairings on the plate.
The mains were equally outstanding: cod and langoustine, pork presented four ways, and then a steak fillet with an oxtail and onion tart. Every dish was cooked to perfection and packed with flavour.
Dessert was a true highlight — a very stylish and delicious trifle followed by an unforgettable banana soufflé with popcorn ice cream. The soufflé was so light and packed with banana flavour, while the popcorn ice cream took me straight back to childhood with its nostalgic, rich taste.
Slice may look like a no-frills, family-run restaurant, but it absolutely surprises you with the decadence and finesse of its plates. It’s already on the Michelin Guide, and I truly believe it could earn a star — although I hope they never lose the cosy charm that makes them so special.
A small note to anyone dining at Slice: their card machine currently doesn’t allow you to add a tip, so do bring cash if you’d like to tip (and trust me, you will!).
When leaving, the chefs again came out to thank us and say goodbye — a lovely, personal touch to end a perfect evening.
We can’t wait to return often, especially with their exciting new menu changes every seven weeks!
This small restaurant is just a hidden gem, tucked away in the back street of Sketty.
As soon as we entered the building, we were greeted by the chefs. Which was such a pleasure, which made us feel very welcome and set the evening up nicely.
Service was impeccable, with 1 really friendly hostess who knew everything about the dishes and really looked after us throughout the night, and as the restaurant only has 5 to 6 tables, the need for another waitress is redundant and would take away from the experience the 1 hostess brings.
It took us about 2.5 hours for the 6 course taster menu and honestly it was nice not to feel rushed for once in a restaurant, as I feel lately most restaurants just want you out as soon as you sit down … I have seen some reviews saying 2.5 hours is a long time, however I think it is the perfect amount of time for an evening meal, no matter how many courses … and when the food being served is so technical and not packeted portions like other popular and favoured restaurants around, waiting a little longer is really not something you should be moaning about.
On a more merry note, the food was well presented and simply tasted out of this world with so many different textures and flavours. You could see how much passion and effort has been put into each dish and can easily see why this restaurant has achieved a Michelin Star!
Lastly, we have to mention the price and ask the question: Is it worth it? … Oh yes, most definitely, and I know for a fact I will be returning. Thank you Slice for such a lovely evening!
My fiancé took us here for our engagement dinner in August. We’ve been to plenty one, two and three Michelin starred places, Slice is definitely competes with some of the best. Dishes were cooked perfectly, delicate tastes and well thought out dishes. The paired wine were great too. Lindsey was warm and friendly which added to the overall amazing experience. Whenever I’m in Swansea, I’ll definitely come again, da iawn!
The food is of another world – every single course of the tasting menu was both delicate and unique. Would highly recommend the wine we chose as well (see picture), though paired wines are also an option!
For anyone on the fence about visiting, please go and support this fantastic establishment. They are worth many visits!!
Been meaning to come here for years but after seeing this specific menu knew it was the time to go! Scallops, venison, pork, monkfish and chocolate what more could you want! Also did the wine pairing and lots of knowledge included
Perfectly filling and lovely will definitely go again
Lovely staff too!
