If you love artisan, homemade, creative, and locally-sourced food then Sleepy Opossum is the place for you!

I love how the menu changes slightly based on what’s growing for the season. The “hashbrown bowls” are a family favorite! I always get one of their in-season lattes, made with homemade syrups/flavors. Such a treat!

The vibe of the cafe reminds me of my grandmother’s home so I get all the cozy, warm and nostalgia feelings, which makes me feel so happy.

Pro tip: if you’re going for breakfast, make sure to arrive EXACTLY when the doors open, or you may not get a seat and have to wait a while because 417 loves Sleepy Opossum! There’s truly nothing like it in Southwest Missouri, and I’m so glad we have this gem of a restaurant in our city!

Keep up the good work you guys!! <3

I guess if you know anything about food, you’d never rate this place a 5. If you have been outside of Springfield, then you know hipster joints like this are a no go. 50 minutes to get one bowl of bland soup, it was like raw water with fried egg. The hash brown bowls missing bacon, terrible vinegared collard greens. Had to beg for water. If you are in google, I recommend not following the silly crowds and going to a place like el cafecito or somewhere slightly on drive. Very underwhelming, felt uncomfortable paying for my meal.

Response to the owner:
Well that’s google reviews are meant for. So others also understand that they might need to wait for the food and it is not what they seem. As an owner, you should also taste when food leaves your kitchen. Instead you chose to gaslight my partners that bacon is cooked with the greens. I can probably afford to by the building you are sitting in, when I said about paying uncomfortable for the meal was that going to McDonald’s someday a feels better when you get dreadful service. Restaurant was busy, I have over 20, three of them have James beard, I get things mess up. But if you must call out your customers instead of saying come back and I’ll make you happy next time…. I mean I am just visiting Springfield, but this simply wasn’t cool.

Sleepy Opossum Café – Cozy Neighborhood Brunch in Springfield, MO

We stopped by Sleepy Opossum Café on a weekend morning for brunch and really enjoyed the warm, friendly neighborhood feel. The café was buzzing — we waited about 30 minutes, but the wait staff was kind and welcoming, which made the time fly by.

For our meal, we ordered a quiche, the “Breakky Salad”, and a side of biscuit and gravy. I especially loved my salad — fresh greens, tasty toppings, and a slice of their homemade rosemary bread that tasted just like it was baked with love. The quiche was a little dry for my taste, and the biscuit ended up being firmer than I hoped, but they were earnest, comforting dishes.

Sleepy Opossum Café is a charming, cottage-core–style breakfast spot in Springfield. The owner built the café with local, seasonal ingredients in mind.
It’s known for creative, made-from-scratch breakfast fare — think quiches with hashbrown crusts, cozy breakfast bowls, and fresh roasted eggs.

✅ Pros
• Friendly, welcoming service that makes you feel at home.
• Cozy, vintage-inspired atmosphere with fun, eclectic decor.
• Homemade rosemary bread is a standout.
• Variety in menu: from quiche and salad to creative breakfast bowls.

⚠️ Cons
• Menu items like the quiche can be a bit dry.
• Biscuits may be firmer than expected — softer might be better.
• When it’s busy (like brunch hours), wait times go up and seating fills quickly.

Tips
• Visit during off-peak hours (weekday morning or early weekend) to avoid the longer wait.
• Try the homemade breads — especially the rosemary bread — as a side or with your salad.
• Ask the staff for menu suggestions — they’re friendly and know their dishes well.

Sleepy Opossum Café feels like a warm, welcoming corner of Springfield where you can slow down, savor comforting flavors, and enjoy a little nostalgia. Even if a few dishes didn’t hit perfectly, the heart behind it is what makes it a favorite neighborhood brunch spot — and I’ll happily come back for another cozy morning.☕️

Now I’m not writing this because my sister owns the place. But watching her grow her business from a small pull behind trailer, to what she has now, I am nothing but impressed. Her food quality has always stayed the same. Her customer service is unmatched. The atmosphere and vibes the second you walk through the door is always welcoming and is a safe place for anyone who steps foot inside. The local produce, meats, coffee and everything else is top quality. Each dish is made with love. She works so hard to provide the best dining experience paired with food you can trust and feel good about eating. I’ve had just about everything she offers and I’m still blown away with the new creations she comes up with. If you’re local to Springfield, or just passing through, please make a stop in and give it a try! You definitely won’t be disappointed nor will you leave hungry. Don’t t forget to pay attention to her Farm to Table dinners she hosts as well as many other fun pop ups! She’s a great addition to the Roundtree neighborhood and is very community based, often hosting events to give back to local animal shelters.

If I could give this place a 1000/10 I would. Better yet, if I could pay her to open another location here where I’m at in Burlington, Iowa, I definitely would because I would eat there every morning. ALSO, she is usually open despite the bad weather. So instead of staying inside being a Scrooge, go support a local business ❤️

Hats off to Dani and her team. *Chefs Kiss*

Awesome experience and had a great time with our friends during this brunch! They literally sold out of food right as we were leaving! All of the Opossum themes are cute too!

All made from scratch and one of the best breakfast meals I’ve had. Service was top notch as well.

If you haven’t checked this place out, come on down! Highly recommend!

This is such a cute place! We were in Springfield for a baby shower and stopped here one of our mornings and could not have been happier!
We got the Apple of my Eye which was soooo good! We weren’t going to order it originally but our waitress suggested and man were we glad! It was amazing! We also got a breakfast sandwich which was the best one I had in YEARS!
We also got one of their signature lattes and a London foggy and both were great. My sister is a coffee snob and wanted to go back every day we were there just for the latter alone.
We picked up some pasties when checking out and those didn’t disappoint either.
If you are wanting different, fresh and good food it’s definitely worth the stop!

My sister was getting her car repaired and we decided to give Sleepy Possum a try. So glad we did. We prefer inventive breakfast food and that’s exactly what we got. My hash brown bowl had scrambled eggs, radish pico, nasturstium pico and a drizzle of chili oil.

The biscuits are a little more cakey then flakes, but truly delicious. We guessed that they were made with cream.

So happy we had the perfect opportunity to try it out.
