My wife and I have wanted to try this place for a few years, but never had taken the chance, so I made reservations for Valentine’s Day. The service was good, not too pushy, but still attentive. The live music was fine, but we were seated very close to the musician and it was too loud. However, I imagine a seat farther away would be acceptable.
Most of the food was ok, but we were very disappointed in the entrees, specifically the ribeye. It was almost cooked to the correct temp (medium rare), but it was very tough and rubbery. The marbling was minimal and steak itself wasn’t very flavorful. They were reliant on the sauce for flavor. I have purchased several basic ribeye steaks from Walmart that were much better quality. It was difficult to cut through and hard to chew. A surprisingly poor cut of meat for almost $60. I really expected something better.
My wife’s seafood was a little better, but the scallops were again write chewy. We had just hoped for something a little higher quality given that it was Valentine’s Day.

The food and service were wonderful! Our booth was well located so it helped with the date night experience. Carter was an unbelievably server. He was so willing to share insights into the food and recommend exceptional dishes. It was truly a wonderful evening.

Well, if you want to pay $50+ for a filet that’s barely half an inch thick and smaller than a hamburger, sitting on mashed potatoes and veggies with some cheap-tasting gravy, this is your place! We complained, and while our waitress was great and took the food off the bill, the meal itself was terrible. The manager didn’t even bother to come to our table. Overall, a horrible experience.

Stopped in unexpectedly with my party of six. We were able to get a table right away. The service was wonderful, drinks were great, food was excellent, and the entertainment was perfect.

My ribeye was just okay, but my wife’s filet was disappointing. It was barely ½ inch thick and maybe 4–5 inches in diameter, where have you ever seen a $50+ filet that thin? It looked like it had been pounded flat to tenderize it, or cutting in half & pounding it out to save money. No pictures online looked like what we were served, and why are you a steakhouse but don’t show any steak dishes on your menu, or online.
Our server was terrific, no complaints there. But when we asked to speak with the manager, she returned with the bill and said the meals had been comped. The manager never even came to our table. That’s poor leadership in a restaurant setting.
I’m not looking for a generic “please call us” response, I’d rather see real action. Take a hard look at your menu, your kitchen practices, and especially your management. Guests shouldn’t have to be comped just to be heard.

We were in Traverse City for our honeymoon and came to Slate for our “fancy” dinner night. The food was amazing and the service was great. The only downside is that some of the seating is too close to other people. We were right next to a family (our tables were 12 inches from eachother) that had two kids, and let’s just say one of the kids was not happy the entire time. It would’ve been a better atmosphere and more peaceful if we had more privacy. Wish we got a booth for our special night.

This is my second time ever coming here but I must say it’s very eloquent and has a sophistication to it that I highly enjoy. Dignified in nature and is a hidden gem, as there isn’t much publicity on this place. So that is another thing I enjoy. The waiters and waitresses are great as well. Also best of luck to my fellow farmer trying to get his way into the medical field.

On a Friday night we waited about an hour for a table, which wasn’t bad and they text us when it was ready so we could walk around downtown. The food was absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend going here. The Surf and Turf is a fillet mignon on a cheese and crab risotto and honestly was some of the best risotto I’ve ever had. I tried everyone else’s dishes and not one was bad. Prices are reasonable for what you get. We will for sure go again!

This was our 1st visit to TC and we happened upon this place and checked out the menu that was posted in the window. The wife had a taste for Bruschetta and it was on the menu so we went in. The hostess asked us if we had a reservation, which we didn’t, but seated us right away.
The Bruschetta WAS AWESOME!! We also got the Tomato Caprese which was even slightly better than the Bruschetta! The baguette was served warm and with dipping sauce but was $3.00 extra.
My wife had Fettuccine Alfredo with grilled chicken and thought it was really good especially if you like your Alfredo sauce thick! Much thicker than most places.
I had an Italian Susage dish with penne pasta, marinara and backed cheese on it. I can’t remember the exact name if the dish, sorry. It was good however the sausage was ground up like hamburger so it had a lot of sausage in it so it had a very strong sausage taste to it. I prefer my sausage in chuck’s but I cant hold that against them.
Very good food, service was fantastic and prices were a in line with a tourist destination restaurant. We recommend it and think you will enjoy it.

Underwhelming. I made a reservation for a table for my wife and I for our anniversary. When we arrived they told us that our reservation was for their sister restaurant, Slate. They found us a table upstairs. The room upstairs looked like the place they put people they didn’t want to deal with. It was shabby and not posh looking at all. The server was nice and attentive. The brushetta tasted good, but was soggy. The eggplant parmesan had good flavor and was crispy. The carbonara was bland. I was really looking forward to dessert as many reviewers had posted pictures of cannolli. They did not have any cannolli. Needless to say, we both left disappointed, without dessert.
