The wife and I experienced good food, we got the sampler platter it was brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and chicken. We added ribs and burnt ends. There was potato casserole and Mac and cheese. Everything was good but the potato casserole I think stole the show! I really like the amount of food we received. Yes we spent $80.but if it’s good it’s worth it. I would like to try the turkey next time.

The Menu had so many options so of course I had to get the Sampler…with the 3 ribs AND the burnt ends The menu in the entryway is a little overwhelming… hard to not be standing in front of someone trying to look at it. I have to agree with the other post I read about the temperature… brisket was sliced thin and cold. Loves the fact that they have “to go” containers set out for you. We shared the sampler and couldn’t even finish it! Surprisingly, the chicken was my favorite . I bet that rooftop deck would be awesome on a summer afternoon!

On a cold early evening Slaps was a warm bbq place for us out-of-towers! First time visitors.

We both dined in – they gave an area for those that dine in – converted covered area, warm as there is no seating area directly as you come in. Great atmosphere.

Food: I like hot food. Unfortunately, my burnt ends and brisket was warm at best. Disappointing. Great flavor.

You get slices of bread. Literally white bread pulled out of a bread sack. Not buttered, grilled, toasted

Baked beans were piping hot and delicious.
Potato casserole – husband liked, I wasn’t a fan. Doesn’t mean it’s not a favorite.

Chicken – tender and hot. I would opt for that next visit.

Overall, I would return and try out again.

Conveniently located less than 3 miles from downtown KC where we were staying.

Service: excellent! So nice and hospitable!

So I have been wanting to eat here since moving to KC. I have tried other BBQ like Q39, KC Joes, Gates. None of them hold a candle to Slaps. THIS IS THE BEST IN KC. Period. I have eaten there a few times now. Nothing has been short of spectacular. Staff is also good. My only gripe is the parking but that’s part of the area, not uncommon to this particular business. If you are an out of town visitor, this is where you go for KCBBQ. If you are a local, well, you already know.

GET THERE EARLY! Dope bbq! My first time there, and I was very impressed! Service is fast! The line was about 25 people deep when I got there at 10:45 (opens at 11). Worth the wait for sure. Food was outstanding.

Really good KC bbq, great sauce joint, the jalapeño smoked sausage is awesome (probably best item they serve). The Mike Johnson is a great great sandwich and imo one of KC’s iconinc BBQ sandwiches. Its messy and huge, but definitely worth the stop to see what all the buzz has been about.

We ate at Slap’s for the first time today. We had the cattleman platter, which included brisket, burnt ends, and sausage. The meat was fantastic. The sauces were OK. I liked the spicy sauce better than the sweet sauce. The sides were fine, but not as good as other places. The atmosphere is really great, and for barbecue in Kansas City, it is super affordable.

Slap’s BBQ delivers an authentic Kansas City barbecue experience that lives up to the hype. The smoky aroma hits you the moment you arrive, and the meats don’t disappoint — fall-off-the-bone ribs, and pulled pork that’s rich and flavorful on its own but even better with their tangy, slightly sweet sauce. The sides deserve their own praise — potatoes and fried pickles add the perfect complement to the hearty mains. Service is quick and friendly, and while the lines can get long, it’s absolutely worth the wait. Slap’s isn’t just a barbecue joint — it’s a must-stop destination for anyone who takes their BBQ seriously.

This BBQ joint was pretty good, but it didn’t rock my socks off like other places I’ve been. No complaints on the BBQ or sides really, I just enjoyed a couple BBQ joints in KC more than here. One thing that was a bummer was that we had to eat outside since the indoor seating was completely full. This lead to our food getting cold pretty quickly, which may have contributed to my opinion on the food. Overall, I’d still come back and eat some good BBQ!

I’m so confused right now… This place had lines wrapping the building and it is bland. No smoke rings or rub on the brisket. Onion rings are NOT hand breaded which is okay but why are you charging $7.99 for grocery store onion rings that aren’t even cooked to order. Food doesn’t come out of the fryer room temperature. This food REQUIRES sauce and good BBQ does not need sauce! How are they as busy as they are with this food!?! Baked beans are just sugar, spices, ketchup, brown sugar and hope! Absolutely terrible. Pulled pork eats dry, cheesy corn is mediocre at best. Turkey is moist and flavorless. Tastes oven baked not cooked on a smoker or a grill. Jalapeño cheddar sausage is the only thing worth eating but definitely NOT worth the trip. One out of five. Would NOT recommend. This BBQ gives Kansas City a bad name.
