We had the rainbow trout, shrimp fritters, and roasted oysters—everything was outstanding. We finished by splitting two smash burgers, which we loved. The drinks were also delicious. Our waiter was a highlight too—he helped us choose everything and made the whole experience feel easy and fun. On top of it all, the decor is great: stylish, warm, and really adds to the vibe. We’ll definitely be back.

We split 5 appetizers between the two of us and we both agreed that it was probably the best meal we’ve had in Richmond. We had crudo and ceviche: both were complex and phenomenal. Every bite was a wow. Roasted oysters in melted cheese was insane. The churros were good but probably the most forgettable of the dishes, which is saying something because they were still really good. Shrimp fritters were also wonderful, we asked for a lemon to squeeze over them. Wine and cocktails were also great. Will be back!

Finally made it to Slack Tide Fish Co. and it was worth the wait!
SO SO GOOD!
Brought to you by The Yellow Umbrella, so you know it is is amazingly fresh seafood!
The menu is broken into Raw, Small, Medium and Large Plates. Our server told us most people share plates so that’s what we did. Menu is primarily seafood, though there is salad, a burger, steak and beef tartare too.
Great cocktail menu and wine list.
Relatively small inside with bar seating and tables and then a large patio area.
Service was OUTSTANDING. FOOD DELICIOUS!!!
What we tried…..we shared everything:
SMOKED RAINBOW TROUT CHURROS: gruyere cheese, honey crisp c pickled celery, za’atar
SPICY SHRIMP FRITTERS: pickled gochu peppers, thai basil, shrimp aioli
CHICORY & SQUASH SALAD: duck contit, orange, pepitas, pecorino romano pumpkin seed, balsamic
ARCTIC CHAR: sunchoke, mushroom, lime, walnut, beurre noisette
WARM LAMBIC POACHED QUINCE:Brown butter almond cake, citrus sour cream ice cream, candied almonds
OTHER NOTES:
Street parking. Make a reservation thru Resy.
In the old Blue Bee Cider space. A little bitter sweet because I loved Blue Bee though they have done good by the space.

Went to the Slack Tide speakeasy last night. It’s a really intimate space above the restaurant. We got on the waitlist around 4:30 and received the text about 6:15 that we could return. You have to check in at the hostess stand in the main restaurant to get added and upon your callback. They escort you up.
It’s a small area that has only one table for 4, several tables for 2 and multiple bar seats. It’s rustic with lots of wood and stone…very pretty. I wish they would’ve gone all out with the Xmas decor to go with their 12 Days of Xmas cocktail theme. With the wood/stone aesthetic, it’d be stunning if they did white snowflakes, stockings, and other accents…but it’s still cool the way it is.
We had 2 rounds of drinks which included the Partridge in a Pear Tree, Nine Ladies Dancing, Three French Hens, Five Golden Rings, and Eight Maids a Milking. #9, #4, and #8 were the favorites. The Partridge was just ok. I love mezcal but it needs to be balanced and it completely overpowered the drink..could not taste anything but the smoke. Wouldn’t order that again but all the rest we would.

We figured this place would be good, but holy moly it was AMAZING! We went on a whim one Saturday night, was able to get a same day reservation around 7:30PM on the covered patio. Vibes are great, staff was lovely, and the food was probably our favorite dinner of this whole year. Drinks were amazing! We could eat probably 10 more plates of the ” za’atar churros”, severed with something that reminded me of an elevated whitefish salad on steroids. The tuna crudo was so unique but delicious. Was expecting to like the halibut, but oh my gosh the risotto blew us away!!! A little pricey but definitely worth it for a special occasion. Would love to go back and sit at the raw bar 🙂

Food was spectacular!! It was served fresh, hot, with unique presentation. The octopus served skewer style was so tender. I would say I liked it better than Pinky’s and Stella’s octopus!! Crazy!! Focaccia bread so good!! I love the location and it’s fun to pop over before dinner to Cirrus Vodka for a drink beforehand. Only complaint is they don’t know how to make a classic vodka martini!! Waitress wasn’t around when needed and took a long time to get drinks. Otherwise, I would definitely return. Reservations necessary and book far out!

Wow wow wow! The best grand opening night for a restaurant I’ve ever been to in my life. The space was intimate, staff friendly and focused. Every single thing we ordered was SO GOOD!
MUST TRY DISHES- anticucho octopus, spicy shrimp fritters and the whole fish. This is definitely joining the date night rotation for us! Make a reservation and get over here ASAP! You won’t regret it!

I rarely go to a restaurant so soon after it opens, but I have been pleased with the Ballast complex offerings and could not wait to enjoy a meal at Slack Tide Fish Co. You enter the restaurant through a cobblestoned courtyard, you could hear a nice hum of activity as you entered due to both the Yellow Umbrella grocery and the Cirrus Vodka tasting room housed within. STFC featured a nice retractable screen for outdoor dining and a nicely appointed dining room that is a little bit tight but manageable. The interior is fresh with light colored woods, moody lighting and an illuminated bar with plenty of seating. It was busy for most of the evening. The menu for some may be less approachable as there are some ingredients you may need to Google and you’ll find fare that is not what is typically served at many local seafood restaurants. I enjoyed a nice selection of oysters along with a hanger steak, black sea bass and I loved the Tiger’s Blood shaved ice dessert which was very refreshing. My server was very pleasant and attentive and handled questions about the menu very well. The one major issue is parking for those who do not live in Scott’s Addition, on-street parking is at a premium and I had to use a paid lot at Summit and Marshall on a Wednesday night. I will look forward to the Fall menu.

Slack Tide has the potential to be a top restaurant in Richmond. The space is beautiful, and we loved sitting at the oyster bar.
The octopus was the standout dish. Great shrimp fritters as well, and the oysters each had a unique flavor. It didn’t feel like having four different oysters that all tasted the same.
Can’t wait to go back for more and try the entrées. Cocktails were also delicious and well crafted

I usually don’t do opening nights for restaurants or at least until the kinks are worked out. This was firing on all cylinders. The mezcal drink was well layered. The octopus is hands down the best I’ve had in Richmond. Shrimp fritters were out of this world and the Seabass was one of a kind. This will definitely be in our date night rotation. The ambiance was set by a super dope outside roof that closed and limited lighting inside making it quite intimate. All in all, 100/10 hands down! Happy for the owners!!
