The guy in front of me last night waited 30 minutes for a water…
My suggestion? Create an event drink menu. If your bartender can’t make the drink in 1 minute, it’s not on the menu. No more complicated cocktails. You should be rocketing beverages out. Events on the weekend are “all hands on deck” periods and should be prioritized, not just a regular Tuesday night on the roof. Especially if you’re charging a service charge, and currently provide terrible service. Do better WESTIN.
Now for the bad part. The service is ridiculously slow. The bartenders seem more interested in talking to the other staff than pouring drinks. As other reviews have said, they employees tend to stand around and talk instead of serving the customers. This bar could make a killing in profit if it had bartenders and servers that were interesting in actually working the room. There is limited space at the bar so we had hoped that the servers walking around would come and take our order. After waiting more than 15 minutes and trying our best to get their attention, we had to go up to bar to order our drinks. (FYI, the “cool deck” is less than cool on hot, sunny days. If you do not have shoes/sandals on your feet, they will burn.) Even after ordering a round of drinks, the staff take forever to come around and take reorders. I would say that management needs to spend some time up there to get the staff working, but I’ve seen the managers up there and they are also just hanging out and chatting it up.
Our last night there, we went up to the pool for some late evening drinks and a little hot tub time. We got setup around the hot tub and after about 20 minutes, we finally were able to flag down an employee and asked if they were still serving. He seemed shock that we would ask but we explained that we’ve been trying to get someone to come by and take our order. While we were up there, we counted at least 8 different hotel employees just hanging out. Some were servers “working” the bar/pool area, others looked they might have been random hotel employees. We even saw a couple of facilities guys that were up there to take in the music and atmosphere. Maybe they were off their shift, but it is not a good look to that many employees lingering about and no one helping the customers. As I said, this bar could make a lot of profit if they just put in a little effort. It’s hotel priced drinks and food, the profit margins should be pretty decent, you would think there would be some hustle to get customers to rack up a nice little tab so the servers could score a healthy tip.
We will go back, because we really like the hotel, but we’ll keep our expectations at a minimum with regards to service at the rooftop bar. The atmosphere is 5 star, the service is 1 star (at best).
Spent the afternoon/evening in the pool and hot tub. It’s was a bit crowded, but we had a cabana so we were comfortable. Great place to hang out by the pool for drinks. It can be romantic, a party, or relaxing. We will continue to frequent this place, the view alone makes it worth it.
