I was visiting from out of town, and my host suggested going up to Bishop’s Lodge on Tuesday for lunch. SkyFire Cafe is beautiful, and it has a fantastic atmosphere. Everything cost about double what I would expect to pay anywhere else, $115+ tip for two drinks, an app, and two meals, but I figured it would be outstanding. It was not. The margarita was made from a mix. The chicken wings were overcooked and dry, and the garnish vegetables were dried out, like they had been left out for hours. Zoom in on the attached photo. I ordered the burger, and it had an unpleasant sauce that completely overpowered all of the other flavors. The person I went with ordered a club sandwich and it was very dry. Neither of us ate more than half of our food. The high point were the french fries and ranch dressing. I normally do not write bad reviews, but I felt compelled to bring this to the attention of the management of Bishop’s Lodge.

We stayed at Bishops Lodge for three nights and had breakfast daily and two dinners at Skyfire. The food was absolutely outstanding. It very much exceeded my expectations for an upscale lodge. The service was great and the atmosphere was perfect. I have a hard very time finding food out at restaurants that my partner can’t cook better at home and this chef was amazing! Everything was prepared perfectly and the flavors and sauces (the sauces!!) were so good. Everything on the menu was delicious, wish we could have stayed longer!! Thank you to all the staff!

Surprisingly a very disappointing brunch. The Bloody Marys description said it came with “all the garnishes” which was literally a frozen celery stick (disgusting) and 1 olive… The worst Bloody Mary I’ve ever had. All of the food was just ok. The atmosphere is gorgeous with lovely architecture and interior design. I would only recommend ordering a glass of wine or a beer to see the environment because everyone’s cocktails and food were subpar and way over priced given the poor quality.

SkyFire is tucked within a main building at Bishops Lodge, in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Santa Fe. To me, it rates relatively mid-range within the Auberge brand. The setting is lovely but doesn’t capitalize fully on the mountain views, instead having a terrace angled solely at the lower, western horizon — it’s pretty, but bring your sunglasses and a jacket for high wind exposure. The greeting we received at the host stand was a bit off-putting. Uncertain how long the drive from Santa Fe’s historic plaza to Bishops Lodge might take and how the weather might shape up, we headed over early and walked around the beautiful grounds awhile. When we made our way to SkyFire, we were told rather brusquely that we were 25 minutes early and could take a seat in the bar, even though it was an uncrowded weeknight and they were seemingly not at all understaffed. No one came to find us even at our reservation time, so we made our way back to the stand and were taken to our terrace table. The menu was not particularly novel, but the dishes were enjoyable, and our server was quite friendly (and kindly pointed out that 20% gratuity is added across the board at the lodge). In general, it was a “good but not great” experience that felt expensive but underwhelming.

We dined at Skyfire at Bishop’s Lodge four times in January (brunch and dinner) and had a fantastic experience every single time. The atmosphere is quiet and cozy, especially with the live music and snow on the ground outside. The service is top-tier; the staff even remembered the specific preferences for my hot chocolate order without asking twice. Highly recommend for a winter meal, though we can’t wait to come back and sit outside this summer!

I have never paid this much money for the mid-est mains ever.
I got the pan seared chicken. She was drier than summers in the New Mexican desert and I felt so dumb that it was $42. My husband got the grilled ruby trout. It was slightly less than okay. We don’t usually order fish in New Mexico but we thought…hmm maybe this place would be okay. Nope. It was 100% not worth $46.
We got the Hamachi Tiradito and the New Mexican Truffle bread as starters and both of them were hilarious and not in a good way. The server told us that the Tiradito is tart… almost as …a warning?? A warning we should have listened to because it really was so tart that it bordered inedible.
The server said that the food is focused on staying true to the land and the ancestors and then brought out the New Mexico Truffle Bread. It was a knotted croissant with a chipotle butter smear and …. chimichurri sauce (??!! like…why??… who’s ancestors are we honoring with croissants??). They could have pretended it was frybread at least that way they’d be pretending to honor the actual ancestors.
The dessert was nice. Can’t go wrong with chocolate thank god.
This was the DUMBEST ~$250 we spent. Please eat somewhere else. The place is beautiful but the food…….is terrible and expensive. Not a combination that is remembered for the right reasons.

Also… adding an edit about poor community water usage etiquette by Bishop’s Lodge? I’m not a local but honestly…this is the kind of stuff that leaks over to thoughtfulness in hospitality. If you don’t have empathy for your community, you sure as hell don’t have empathy and thoughtfulness towards your guests..NO THANKYOUUU (I’ve added photos of concerns voiced by locals about water usage).

Happy hour is a perfect time to check this nice place out. They have a great menu and we ordered fish and brisket tacos. They are small fyi but they were good. The beer options were average at best. The cocktails looked elevated. I think it took a bit too long for our food to come out. I also felt one or two more check-ins and or refills of tea and water would have been appreciated. When our server was there, they were very professional. The views are pleasant inside and out. I will return.
