Our business is the longest-standing established family owned Drive Thru in Kitsap County owned by ONE owner since February 2003. We were previously known as Coyote Coffee (after the coyote ugly movie) but with an upgrade with a new building we decided a change in name. Sky Kai our blue jay has always been here providing friendly service, great espresso, new creation of drinks (the famous Rez Bomb by our late mother Tina), our long-term relationships with our customers, and our strive to be the best!

Service: …
My routine is to ask for a mocha with light chocolate, but with about 3/4 of what they’d normally use. I’d barely gotten out “light chocolate” when she interrupted with “What else?”
I bring my own cup and ask for it to be extra hot, and if they wouldn’t mind making it in that cup so that the metal doesn’t cool it down.
“Can I get it extra hot…”
“Got it” she interrupted again and immediately closed the window on me. Which…it was a couple Saturdays ago…the nicest day we’d had all winter, nearly 70 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, I was wearing a t-shirt and had the windows down, but…okay.
She came back with the coffee a couple minutes later, handing me back my card, “Any tip on that?”
I wasn’t going to tip, in fact, I’d been debating on whether or not I was going to say anything about her behavior, but I don’t know, since she asked I told her sure, she could add fifty cents. “Yeah no thank you” she replied, while once again shutting the window on me.
I reached over, opened the window and looked to the barista working the opposite window, “This woman has a real attitude problem over here” and she helpfully pointed out that “Its a fifty cent tip!”
“She cut me off twice when I was trying to tell her what I wanted” I replied.
The larger girl cut in with, “Its the machine, I can’t hear over the machine, thank you sir” and shut the window on me again. I just drove away.
No, the machines weren’t the cause of her being ultra abrupt and rude, barely allowing me to get a word out…
I’ve rarely worked in any other industry than the service industry and completely understand being stressed and/or just in a foul mood, but to exude it like that…to radiate it so completely as to make a customer feel uncomfortable while just trying to place an order…it was even kind of intimidating somehow. Its not fair to put that on anyone, let alone a customer you’re going to have gall enough to ask for a tip. Then to give even more attitude because the tip isn’t what you feel you’re entitled to?
On the other hand, I have to say that she knew what she was doing…the coffee was excellent…she did a great job with it. It wasn’t as hot as I wanted, but it rarely is…she’s a great barista but yeah I can’t think of anytime I’ve ever felt anywhere near this level of hostility and I get an espresso nearly every day of the week while delivering throughout Kitsap county.
Personally, it kind of sucks to be out in the sunshine, in a great mood on a beautiful day and then have some negativity, some random person with an attitude land right smack in the middle of it. I didn’t ask for it…and I’m sure there have to be others that have felt the same. Take it down like four notches, it wasn’t that busy, there was no need to be like that.
