10 out of 10 for me and can’t wait to go back
The chef served a seasonal jersey tomato salad with burrata that I’ll dream about until next summer. The complimentary bread has to come from a great bakery because it was remarkable, too.
They also served roasted potatoes that came with a side of crème fraîche or sour cream. I’d go back just for that side dish alone.
But the moment that sealed the deal was the handmade pasta for the kids. The chef took the time to use the mantecare technique (emulsifying the sauce with cheese and butter) to finish it perfectly. This sounds silly but every parent that has ever ordered a kids pasta at a restaurant that gets that level of care knows the rest of the plates are going to be spot on. It was, unbelievably, my favorite plate of the night, which says everything you need to know about the quality, considering every other dish was utterly bonkers. It’s BYOB and that makes me happy as well. Plan ahead. Reserve in advance! You guys are great. Keep the faith! We’re looking forward to visiting soon.
The owner gave us a free dessert because it was so chilly inside. Good news is the food will still be awesome, and one day this god foresaken winter will end!
If you haven’t been to Skratch Kitchen in Bradley Beach yet, now is the time to go before the summer rush makes it one of the toughest reservations in town. This rustic, cozy spot has an inviting atmosphere, and Chef-Owner JT delivers an unforgettable dining experience with every dish.
We started with the Comfy Meatballs & Grits, a warm and satisfying appetizer. The Fried Eggplant Carrozza was crisp on the outside and creamy inside, while the Grilled Shrimp was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The Roasted Cauliflower was another highlight, bringing out deep, rich flavors in a simple dish.
The Pappardelle Bolognese was the ultimate cold-weather comfort meal—hearty, rich, and deeply satisfying.
For mains, the Chicken Parm was generously portioned, crispy, and covered in just the right amount of sauce and cheese. The Bistro Filet had a bold, robust flavor that stood out, and the Shrimp & Grits was a bowl of creamy, savory goodness that hit all the right notes.
Dessert, though, was the real showstopper. The Carrot Cake was easily the best I’ve ever had—and might be the best you’ll ever have, too. Moist, perfectly spiced, and topped with incredible frosting, it was unforgettable. The Classic Tiramisu, with a dusting of pistachio, was a fantastic take on the traditional version, bringing just the right amount of sweetness to end the meal.
It’s no wonder Guy Fieri made sure to stop at Skratch Kitchen during his visit to New Jersey. If you haven’t been, don’t wait until summer—go now and experience this gem for yourself!
