I can’t say that for Skipper’s Seafood.
When you pull into the parking it’s full even at odd hours, as we arrived before normal dinner hours. They have the nautical rope and wooden post fencing on the outside, which sets a tone, but going in is mind blowing.
Upon entering the foyer you are whisked away from the everyday and transported into a nautical wonderland by the wall murals. They are incredible! We went into the restaurant itself and the walls were all decorated in the same fashion, including murals of an ocean-front town, fishing vessels, lighthouses, and underwater scenes of lost treasure and a submarine.
Our waitress, Miss Donna, was as incredible as the murals. She was friendly, patient, and more than just polite-she was nice. She had a ready smile and willingly explained the differences in menu items. I can honestly say that if she wasn’t the best waitress/waiter I’ve ever had, then she was without a doubt top three. Smiles cost nothing, and friendliness begets friendliness-and she had both in spades.
And then there’s the food. Maaan, the food. It was out in no time, which is amazing in itself. The cost to portion was fair, and before tonight I’ve never had fried food where I didn’t need to hide the flavor in ketchup or another condiment. I didn’t need or WANT condiments for the food at Skipper’s-it was THAT GOOD.
I’ve never eaten somewhere where it was amazing in all three areas-environment, staff and food. Skipper’s nailed all three. This was truly an enjoyable experience and we will definitely be back next time we are in the area. Honestly, I’d drive an hour out of the way to get the experience again. Yeah, it’s that good.
Staff were good attentive and pleasant.
My advice is try it you will not be disappointed.
We ordered couple different items. They served us with hush puppies before our order was ready which I regretted eating lol because i was stuffed when my food arrived so be mindful of that.
The food was very mild in taste for me. I would take some spice sauces with me next time
The server was so nice and generous. She came to out table like 5 times asking if we need anything.
Must visit!
I would drive to this skippers instead of the one in highpoint without a doubt.
Good portions. Great value for price. Will definitely visit again.
It was a Sunday on a holiday evening and the place was jammed but they had a table available. I went with Skippers Special of the house which is flounder, shrimp, oysters and deviled crab. I almost didn’t order it because everyone I get deviled crab I’m disappointed….they taste old…or frozen or even a tad slimy. This version was absolutely perfect. The oysters were big and plump and awesome. Shrimp were good as was the flounder. Slaw portion was not large but good. My sweet potato was watery. My relative that got the exact same thing as me said his sweet potato was perfect. My sister got the senior combo (open to all ages????,) She went with oysters + GOLDEN catfish which was (according to our great server) was boneless and skinless and a little milder than the regular catfish. Hush puppies were decent. Desserts according to board were homemade but we were all to stuffed to imbibe. My dad’s friend was right. This place is top notch.
