Reviews
We took the short scenic drive from Tarbert to Skipness and it was well worth it, what a find the Skipness Seafood Cabin is. Stunning location, we were fortunate it was a sunny day and we could enjoy their outdoor seating. The staff were all polite, friendly and a joy to interact with. Service was great overall. And the food was just fantastic. Well presented, fresh and delicious, good value for money too. After a few dining disappointments on this trip, with poor service, low quality food and over pricing, it was refreshing to find a place that showed real thought and care about their business. Quite frankly we cannot understand why places like this are the exception and not the norm?
We enjoyed the oysters and crab salad.
Dating back to the 1200’s, Skipness Castle is right next door and well worth a walk around. A short stroll along the shore will take you to St Brendan’s Chapel, also worth a look.
All in all a fabulous day out.
Unfortunately, I can’t comment on the food, because we weren’t served. Despite arriving at 2pm and seeing available tables, the staff refused to seat us, saying they were extremely busy. I understand that peak times can be challenging, but turning customers away without offering the option to wait or even explaining how long the delay might be is disappointing and, frankly, unprofessional.
We would have happily waited if told there was a delay. Instead, we were simply turned away after a long journey, which felt dismissive and poorly handled. A restaurant with such a strong reputation should be better prepared to manage busy periods and communicate with customers respectfully.
Sadly, based on this experience, I can only give one star.
Of Kintyre. It’s a nice short walk to the Castle which is a pleasant visit. The Seafood Cabin has plenty of seating inside and out, is dog and child friendly, and the food is great, is very reasonably priced and comes quickly. We shared mussels and langoustines. Young friendly and attentive staff bring the food to table. Absolutely recommended
Our first visit was 20 years ago when it was much smaller and we were thrilled to see it thriving now.
We visited multiple times on our visit to the area and enjoyed every bit of it. Wish we lived closer as it would be our favourite place. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, we actually miss seeing them now that we are home.
Make sure not to miss this fantastic seafood served with a smile. Near Skipness beach and Castle, it has beautiful views and access to the beach beyond the castle. There is also a smokehouse offering a variety of fish and souvenirs.
