Skillets is so accommodating when it comes to food intolerances! My dad can’t eat gluten and is on a low fodmap diet but he is able to eat the gluten free waffles with honey here! I’m a vegan with a bunch of food intolerances and I got a side of skillet potatoes and a side of strawberries to go. The potatoes are amazingly delicious! I never thought something so simple would be so good! My compliments to the chef. The potatoes are just frozen cubed potatoes (no gluten or corn starch coating) that are pan fried in oil (not butter) with rosemary and salt. I scarfed the whole serving down and enjoyed every bite! The strawberries were fresh and sweet. My dad and I would totally go back! As a kid, my family would come here for brunch every time we vacationed in Hilton Head and the pecan waffles were always our family’s favorite. I didn’t think my dad or I would be able to eat here again after developing food intolerances so I was really happy that there were options for us!

The overall experience was disappointing. Service was less than stellar. Our server barely spoke to us. We ordered a gluten free appetizer. Thankfully it is noted on the menu that all GF food is served on green plates. The food was not GF but we were able to catch the error based on plate color. This error could have had severe side effects for a member of our party. The shrimp and grits were delicious! We would recommend that meal for sure. The burrito breakfast was dry and boring. To be honest it was the delicious shrimp and grits that would even allow us to want to try eating here again.

Skillets Cafe & Grill is a tourist trap lacking any desirable qualities. The whole dining experience here was not great from start to finish. There are obvious staffing issues, when half the open tables have not been cleared and it takes the workers 10 minutes to get around to your table just to get a drink order. When we finally got the food, the protein (eggs, sausage, corn beef) were all cold and portions were pathetic. The waitress we had never showed up again, except to collect the bill which then took another 10 minutes to get back. When the best thing going for this place is a cold glass of (store bought) orange juice, you know there is a big problem.

We stumbled on to this gem, what you see in the pic is Barammundi fish from the coast of chile, served over potato’s and grilled Brussels , and covered with a lobster sauce. The presentation was beautiful and the taste was just as beautiful. The key lime pie was a very nice treat.

Bad things first. Waitress wasn’t really friendly or engaging like she just wanted her check and go home. Food was pretty good if you want waffles or pancakes let them know you want your syrup on the side because they will put it on before you get your food. I don’t like soggy pancakes or waffles. Skillets Cafe was not a stellar breakfast establishment. Waitstaff were slow, food delivery was slow, and we had to ask twice to get our full order served. The pancakes were cool enough to not melt butter, the turkey sausage was poor tasting, the pork links were bland. The bacon, when it finally arrived was very good, and the over medium eggs were perfect. Hit and miss, with slow check and payment. The prices should have reflected better quality than was served, although quantity was good. The orange juice was not the best I’ve had, I don’t recommend. Overall not the best choice for a hot, hearty breakfast.

The atmosphere is nice and is walking distance from the beach. Wonderful dog friendly place with a dog menu. My pup didn’t finish his food and my food was ok. I got the crab stuff flounder with rice and veggies. Wasn’t bad but wasn’t good. My spouse had the special the prime rib, it seemed boiled and not grilled? He said it was ok too not bad but not good. Would we come back no just cause the dinner food didn’t hit the mark for us. Maybe their brunch is better? Not sure but good outdoor seating for the area.

12/27/2024- There was no wait when my wife and I came for lunch, the French Toast was delicious, my wife enjoyed her seafood Omelette and single stack pancake. The atmosphere is quite nice and relaxing, with a steady flow of people and conversations. The wait staff is pretty attentive and quick to serve and take care of you! We may come back before we depart Hilton Head Island.
12/28/2024- my wife and I came back from Breakfast/brunch, the Reuben was pretty good and we shared an order of French Toast. The owner is actively checking with patrons and assisting with cleaning the tables and seating people, which is a rare thing to see! Definitely a great place to stop and grab a bite to eat!

Barbara was our server, she was wonderful! They were so welcoming and treated our small dog like a guest. Our food was great and our dog lived her meal also. The next time we are in Hilton Head, we are definitely come back.
