Skål Beer Hall

This place is one of Ballard’s true gems. Skål feels like stepping into a modern Viking mead hall warm, communal, a little rustic, and completely welcoming. The Nordic influence is everywhere, from the food to the drinks to the overall atmosphere, and it just works.

We shared the rabbit Viking feast, which was hearty, generous, and meant to be enjoyed slowly and together. Big flavors, beautifully presented, and the kind of meal that feels like an event rather than just dinner. It pairs perfectly with their excellent selection of beers and meads.

Sadly, they were out of their amazing meatballs — always a standout and definitely missed, but everything else more than delivered. And the staff continues to be a highlight: friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to have you there, which adds so much to the experience.

This wasn’t our first visit, and it definitely won’t be our last. We’ll be back for more.

Solid spot. Great atmosphere and vibe. Definitely recommend the mead tasting to try various options.

Food wise, the split pea soup wasn’t bad but lacked a bit of flavor. The grilled Halloumi was decent, the spiced applesauce it came with helped with the dryness.

Basket of fries were probably the best dish. Spiced really well. The curry ketchup and lemon aioli were great compliments.

Perfect place for a celebration! We had a birthday dinner with 20+ people and we couldn’t have been happier with how SKÅL hosted all of us. From the beginning when we first reached out, they were so helpful and patient with us in the process of booking the party and building the perfect menu. We tried everything from cocktails and mead, to the salmon and chicken feast with appetizers in between and it did not disappoint! The presentation of the Viking Feast was the stand out for sure. The experience, overall, was exactly what we were wanting for a fun night with a big group. Would definitely recommend!

Great atmosphere! Highly recommend the mead flight and the giant pretzel. It was also unexpected and cool to find Glögg outside of Scandinavia 🙂

Great spot. Great food. Loved the atmosphere. Good beer. Lots to love about this place. Parking can be a little tricky on the weekends.

A go-to location for a light meal and solid drink.
Pros:
1. Food designed for group sharing.
2. Excellent service and knowledgeable staff.
3. Food and drink were very nice.
Cons:
1. Atmosphere mixes genres
2. Price is a little high per skewer
3. Small selection of mead
Recs:
1. Smaller pours of mead in exchange for larger selection/flights
2. Remove TVs
3. Ale horns/wood mugs or copper to save money
4. Dive into theme (tapestry, sconces, runes)
5. Make skewer flights off bulk purchase themes (dairy, poultry, wild game etc). Make it cheaper for people to sample outside their comfort zone otherwise you will be stuck with a lot of duck hearts and herring at the end of each night.

SKÅL (Ballard Viking Bar) – A Fantastic, Unexpectedly Festive Experience!
We stopped by SKÅL on Sunday after catching a movie at the Majestic Bay, and what an adventure! It’s an easy and pleasant walk from the theater.
We stumbled right into an unexpected Viking Party/Fair Christmas Celebration, complete with people in full costume. The atmosphere was absolutely electric and welcoming—the people and the vibe were fantastic.
The food/drink menu seemed a bit constrained, likely because of the holiday activities, as a few items were sold out. However, the overall experience more than made up for it.
The seating is an interesting “community style,” where you share long tables with other groups. It’s perfectly fine—not my favorite, but certainly not bad. It really leans into the communal, Viking-hall feel.
Overall: The atmosphere, the people, and the location are all fantastic. If you’re looking for a memorable experience that’s definitely unique to Ballard, this is the place. Highly recommend, especially if you catch them during one of their special events!

As a Minnesota native of Scandinavian descent, I could not have loved this place more (I had no idea Seattle had so much nordic heritage). The whole place looks like it belongs in a Viking longship, and you can tell how much effort was put into all the details. They had a good beer selection, a bunch of tasty meads, and aquavit cocktails (the Odin Fashioned was delicious). Plus, they have some fun surprises like the shot sword.

Meh, wasn’t impressed. My older son is really into all things Viking and he/we thought it would’ve been better since there aren’t many restaurants like this anywhere. Self serve, average food, expensive and pop music. No Wardruna, Danheim, Heilung etc..

This place is a lot smaller than I imagined. We had pickled herring, Swedish meatballs, pretzels, aquavit shot, a mule, and an old fashion.

The herring was great, but the Swedish meatballs and pretzel were a bit dry. My visit wasn’t at the end of the night, so these things should not have been dry.

The drinks and atmosphere were pretty cool.
