Came here on a Sunday night because we were in town and it had great reviews. That wasn’t the case here.. we waited by the “please wait to be seated” sign for about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. It was pretty smokey inside, and for a place like this you’ve got to have negative ventilation on all the time.. the ventilation didn’t seem to be on. The guy came out and said “let me just clean the table first” we sat down and looked on the screen at our table to order.
We ordered the shrimp pepper rice, the garlic beef pepper rice, an order of miso soup and shrimp tempura. The shrimp and garlic beef pepper rice were so bland. The meat had no seasoning (pepper) and when I asked the server if there was seasoning on it he said that it was on the rice under the toppings.. when I mixed it that was not the case at all.. I did not see any seasoning on it just the crunchy topping, chives and corn.. I mixed it and it was super bland with no flavor so I added my own pepper and salt that was at the table.. still didn’t help. I asked the server for soy sauce and he said he’d grab it then came back and said they were all out.. but that the garlic sauce on the table was “like soy sauce” what?? Did he say that because he thought I didn’t know the difference? My hot plate did not stay hot for long so I had pieces of meat that were undercooked.. still raw.. The shrimp pepper rice was also bland.. we kept trying to add stuff for flavor but to no avail.. the shrimp tempura came with some watery off brown color sauce that also had no flavor. And miso was generic and were pretty sure it was store bought or something and the fried tofu inside the miso was extremely dry and not edible.
I feel that I had a bad experience and the service wasn’t up to the standard..

Sizzling Lunch was a great first time experience. I ordered the chicken udon, which was delicious, especially when paired with one of their sauces. The dining experience was smooth and convenient, as we ordered from our phones, and the food was served promptly.

I really enjoy the food here, the presentation of course is half the experience. Each time I’ve gone, my date & I have been the only people in the whole restaurant. It also seems rhay there is only 1-3 employees on shift and the majority of your interaction with the staff is through an ordering website. It’s mellow and delicious but a little different in terms of experience.

Must try in Isla Vista! Like a tandoori skillet, but Korean-style food, sizzling hot, like the name. When in doubt, get what’s on the sign: Garlic beef pepper rice. OMG it was wonderful! Going there the next time I’m in Goleta again. I’ve driven by many times, but had no idea this gem of deliciousness was inside.

Let me preface this review by saying that I, as well as a few of my friends, have had experience working in jobs involving customer service and can say that I understand working with customers and having bad days. However, I don’t feel, as a customer and even as someone who has worked jobs involving customer service, the customer should be the one receiving an attitude because someone may have been having a bad day.
My friends and I go to Sizzling Lunch occasionally because it’s some of the only good Asian food walking distance from campus. When we went yesterday it was pretty good as well. However, the service yesterday left us with a bit of a sour taste after leaving.
Although Sizzling Lunch operates with tablets doing most of the customer service, an employee does come around in order to serve the food. On this occasion, when the server came around, he asked who had the two meals and we hadn’t really discussed who had ordered what so we weren’t sure immediately. We had to confirm with each other for a moment before being able to confirm who had ordered which meals.
After confirming, the employee got irritated with us and proceeded to begin to lecture us on telling him who got what quickly. However, after one of my friends said thank you, he left without another word. We were sorta in disbelief after this because we didn’t feel like we did anything wrong because we just needed time to figure out who got what meal.
Of course, I understand that they have to serve hot plates but the restaurant basically only serves hot plates and he could have put it down and moved it after.
Overall, food is good but the service is bad

I love their food! However, I came to pick up a to go order via grub hub and was told to wait an additional 25-30 minutes on top of the 25 minutes I already waited. What made it worse was that it was marked ready when it was not. I was picking up food during my ten minute break. And so I had to call my co worker to cover. They should have updated the order time via the app instead of having me come in expecting it but it not being ready. Their staff needs better training in customer service. He could have been nice but was instead so rude. Like I don’t complain but this guy started the conversation to tell me the delay all ride and mean. Raven their GM however is amazing and he deserves a raise. He was working overtime to cover for that employee.

Good service. Love the concept. Food was of course piping hot, and tasty. I got the curry beef udon, great flavors, wish I had more noodles. I regretted my choice once I saw the guy next to me get the chicken katsu with rice, eggs and curry sauce…So I guess I gotta come back and get some of that. Good stuff.

The food is great! I like the beef pepper rice spicy and the katsu curry rice. I added garlic shoyu sauce that is provided on the table. The music can be too loud and they play outdated pop songs on repeat, which can be an annoying combination. Maybe it would help if they had an app that would let attendees add songs to a playlist. Or if a link was provided to add songs to a public Spotify playlist. Maybe a playlist with calmer music and lower volume music so that I can hear people at my table talking.

I will definitely recommend this restaurant. It is great for having a lunch or dinner. Usually, I just wanna finish my meal and don’t want the waiter to bother me with “ is everything ok?”. Here, I can order the food via a Electronic device and just wait for the food. When I checked out, there is no pressure from the waiters to add tips.( some waiters from other restaurants just stared at you). The food is yummy, the same as the sizzler I had tried in Hong Kong.

Terrible service manager was incredibly rude and not helpful when the food we ordered was terrible he would not refund us or work with us I’m very dissatisfied DO NOT EAT HERE FOOD SUCKS!!!!
