Stopped in for an early dinner. This is an interesting little Indian restaurant located in a strip mall near the college, next to a military recruiting office. The parking lot is big enough, but oddly shaped and sloped, so be careful when picking your parking spot.

When we arrived they only had a couple tables seated and we were greeted and seated quickly. The server was friendly and attentive. It seemed the kitchen was a little slow, but the server tried to keep everyone entertained while we waited for our food.

Our appetizer of Samosa arrived in a decent time. The pastries were pretty good, but their chutney was old and watery. The flavor was off on it. Our main meal arrived in a reasonable time, and was as we ordered. Their take on Saag is different, with a tomato base and larger chunks of spinach (see picture). Not a finely ground like most other restaurants. My friend ordered their coconut curry, and I found myself wishing I had too. The naan was slightly undercooked on the inside, unfortunately. In the end, we walked away unsatisfied, especially after we drove 40-minutes to try this restaurant.

Greeter is extremely rude. No one was in there when I got there to pick up my order. I waited for a little bit. I came 30 minutes after my pick up time and I had to wait. He asked everyone else what their name was and told him about their order but I didn’t get greeted or told anything about my order so I asked him is my order ready. He said it’s right there didn’t offer me any utensils or anything just extremely rude. I used to love this place. I will not be coming Back.

My husband was bragging about it so I had to try it . He said he came with his family multiple times because they love it so much . I was just happy to be able to try some my kinda food lol

Only meat is halal was the lamb (if I remember it correctly) so we tried the lamb Rogan Josh with garlic naan . We were not that hungry so just ordered one dish .

I liked the naan & the lamb was ok. Nothing to brag about .

The restroom was big & clean. Customer service was great . When we went there the place was empty.

We have eaten at Sitara several times over the years, starting when they had the buffet before Covid. In the first couple of years the food was very good although the atmosphere is basically non-existant. Unfortunately the different dishes now taste very much alike and none of it excels in any way. Iafter dinner tonight, I doubt we will ever eat there again.

It was like being invited into the kitchen of a family friend’s for dinner. Typically I do not like buffets, but their buffets over the weekend is delicious, fresh, and clean! The staff was friendly and the owner works right along side their staff. They check on everyone that was in the dining room.
It was a service I have not experienced at any other Indian restaurant.

Got mild biryani and it had a good spice level to it – just right. Tikka masala was decent at a mild. Maybe try medium next time to give it a bit more flavor.

A little gem of a restaurant here in Ogden.

Tucked away in a little strip
Mall that is easy to access and parking is plentiful.

We lived the tikka chicken masala, who doesn’t, and lived the Chicken burani that we usually do t order.

The surprise f the evening was a sample they gave of of a broccoli disk called Gobi Manchurian that was fantastic. I wanted to change my order but will get it next time. We had it at a place in pheonix and was not nearly as impressed as we were in Ogden.

The large naan servings are freshly made and served hot.

We have been here before and will be back for sure.

The only negative is that the butter chicken wasn’t as flavorful as it should be and was watery and didn’t have the buttery flavor. Interesting that the 3 and 4 star reviews all had butter chicken.

I ordered take out for dinner and had a 20 min wait. Food and service was very good. Prices here are great. The dinner buffet was offered on Saturday night. I will definitely be back for a buffet to try more of their dishes.

Meh
I wouldn’t visit this place. I had a meal at Sitara India in Ogden, Utah, and I must say, my experience left much to be desired. The food simply wasn’t up to par, and I was disappointed with my dining experience. (I ordered butter chicken and the gravy was super runny. Seems like added water to left overs). My colleagues also said they are not happy with the meal.

My feeling is that this restaurant is serves some of the best Indian Food north of Salt Lake. Really good customer service and delicious, authentic South Indian food. For people new to Indian food, I would suggest the Chicken tikka masala. My favorites are the biriyanis and fish curry.

EDIT: 9/23/2022

I came across a review of this restaurant from a week ago that blew my mind and although this is not a forum for refuting reviews, I did not take to it and wanted to really clarify. I have been a customer of this restaurant for over 15 years so I know all the positives and negatives. The reviewer stated

“This is a frozen Indian food has nothing to do with the taste or look, lots of sauce with perfect cube cut chicken thought was something else and probably is it’s a shame they make this kind of Indian food even the bread I guarantee you it’s frozen. Never again waist of money”

This restaurant does not deal with frozen food. The kitchen staff have been with the restaurant for many years and they guy that cuts the chicken has done it so many times that he has become a pro at it. That is why the pieces are even for the most part. I mean to use that to assume that it is frozen???? Also the reviewer does not explain anything about the taste of the food but considers dining here a waste of money because of a conjecture that the food is frozen? Anyway I was permitted to step into the kitchen by the owners and chef to take some pictures of some food preparation. I just want to be clear, there is no frozen food here. Call me biased for being a long time customer here but that is what I am……….a very satisfied customer and I always keep coming back. The pictures below show preparation of Makni Sauce, The paneer (white bag), being strained and prepared (it is a multi process preparation), and tandoori chicken.

Please come in and try for yourself. You will not be disappointed.
