On Tuesday 12/30 around 8:00 PM I was asked by a city official to pick a place to go have a nice drink with a good vibe so we can discuss new business ideas. (We’re both African American) As we went to the door and picked up phone we waited 10 minutes outside.(freezing cold) Then when the female bartender opens the door she says “ I’m assessing a situation” and shut the door back on us. We waited another 7 minutes and she never came back and the camera clearly shows us standing there, so please go back and view it and please don’t say you don’t see it. Two educated handsome black men stuck outside feeling like we were not wanted to come inside it was NOT that busy at all. I’m the last to pull the race card but it’s clearly a sign of NOT feeling wanted. Microagression and racism at its best. My business partner looked at me and said IM gone I will never come here again moving forward please don’t allow your visitors to feel like there not wanted because of the color of their skin. If your going to need more time try saying: IM sorry for the wait first rather then I’m assessing a situation and shutting the door on us. That bartender dropped the ball and made the entire speak easy look bad she stopped a lot of business by doing that. We were considering having a function there but scratch that. hopefully you guys don’t make the next black person to go to your speak easy feel uncomfortable again or leave them outside when your not busy for a total of 15 minutes and have the door shut on them. Sometimes in life it’s not about entering your place of business it’s about feeling welcome when you enter your place of business. Please treat everyone with the same respect you would want poor job you guys horrible

Hannah and Kate are just absolutely amazing ladies and bartenders! Drinks are delicious! Kate’s key lime cocktail is a piece of pie in a glass and Hannah’s chocolate Manhattan is to die for! If they sold food at the bar I’m sure it would be just as good!

I don’t really want to give such a nice place a one star review, but I am compelled to because I believe we live in a culture where you’re not overtly mean to customers because you find out their politics…
I was at this place several days ago and I had a cordial and open ended conversation with the Russian bartender since there were only a few people in the bar. Last night I was back for a drink during prime time being served by a different blonde lady. She told me directly to my face what the other bartender had revealed to her about me. She made it very clear that I wasn’t welcome to another drink – ignoring my requests and closing me out after the first one. In a vindictive tone she then told me that I should go to a gay bar instead because I’d like it more there. I don’t mind a joke but the lady was clearly fuming about what the other lady had told her about me. Of course one could argue that I should do a better job keeping any religious/political views secret, but in any case I could never treat a stranger the way she treated me… Maybe it is a bar run by leftist political activists… Who knows, but I should relay my experience in this review because that is what reviews are for.
