I recently dined at Sing Choi Kee and I have very mixed feelings. The food itself was good..flavorful, fresh, and definitely the highlight of the experience. No complaints there.

Unfortunately, the service really took away from it. We waited a long time for everything: from drinks to appetizers to our entrees. and there were only two other tables in the entire restaurant. When one drink came out and we asked about the other, we were told it was “taking a while to froth the milk,” which felt odd considering how long we had already been waiting.

What made it more frustrating was watching other tables receive their food much faster than we did. It felt inconsistent and honestly a little dismissive.

When it was time to pay, the waitress asked me to just tap my card without even showing me the bill or letting me see the total, and then hovered over us while we were trying to close out. That part felt uncomfortable and rushed.

The food was good, but the service needs serious improvement.

I really wanted to love this place. The incredible robot suit/statue at the main entrance is a Terran Marine character from the awesome video game StarCraft. The other decorations are also out of this world and look really cool. The lady greeting me at the front was super friendly, very nice and helpful. The server was also friendly and worked hard.

But here are the problems:
1. Overpriced drinks. Most of the non-alcoholic drinks are $9. They do look fun and awesome with flavored/colored ice cubes shaped like bears. But the price should be at maximum of $2 per drink. One simple can of Diet Coke costs $2.50! Should be $1.50.

2. Overpriced food and small portions. I think the portions are fine, but the prices should reflect the smaller meal size. For instance my Snack Meal contained 2 chicken wings which were yummy. 3 chicken nuggets which were just ok, a few slivers of sausage which I do not eat so no comment on that flavor, and a medium portion of fries which were good. This small meal did not include a drink and the price was $13. It’s a small sampler and should have been around $5 to $6. I added on a small bowl of rice for $2 which is a good price for that.

3. Some food was very hard or not yummy. For example the pork chunks from the Char Siu rice bowl were very hard and difficult to chew which means they were probably overcooked. The Steamed Shumai were also overcooked, hard, not soft and the flavor was not tasty. The bochai vegetable was undercooked which it hard instead of soft.

4. Long wait times. No fault to the restaurant. They were super under staffed the night I went so one person greeting customers at the front, 2 servers and no one available to clean tables or the floor. So the 2 servers were on double duty bussing tables, taking orders and serving food for over 20 customers plus a birthday party in which most of the staff had to pause what they were doing to give a nice greeting to the celebrant. My server had to keep leaving and returning multiple times to get my order since he had to multi-task with other customers. I did not mind any of these wait times since I am a calm and peaceful guy and had my phone to keep me busy. But I do understand that some people are not like me and will be frustrated by long wait times.

5. Menu and food problems.
The menu outside on the iPad, the iPad menu on the tables, the simple paper menu and the fancy printed table menu all have different items listed. Some of these menus are showing items that are no longer available. There were several items on the table iPad menu and fancy printed menu that I wanted to order, but one of them was no longer being offered and the other was sold out. I wanted the sliders (not available anymore) and the chicken sandwich (out of stock due to no more pineapple rolls).

Message to the owner:
I know you are reading all your reviews here and replying to most of them. I just read most of these reviews and if you look again, most of the negative comments reflect my review. Way overpriced menu on food and drinks. Menu items not available. Not enough employees. If I were you, I would focus on the prices, drop them by half or more. Hire more people. Make a new menu of only what is available and trash all the old menus. Fix your inventory problems so you won’t run out of food.

My family and I went during the second or third week of opening, so I hope it has gotten better.

The decor of the restaurant is fun, but so much! Astronauts, bears, Asian plates, Western plates, etc. But…it’s all about the food, right?

Again, second/third week of opening, so service was lackluster. In the beginning, our server came by to see if we ordered anything yet, and with an extensive menu, we needed more time. But then when we finally added all our orders in the cart, she was a no show for a good 10 minutes. Once she came back, she had to redo the order on her tablet, because the tablet we had was not able to send the order into the kitchen. That took a few more steps. But…it’s all about the food, right?

Waited…then waited…then waited…finally…got the drinks, the soup, and the fried corn. Soup was okay, cool to warm. Corn had no flavor. The milk tea was delicious! Also fun with the little bear hanging out in the cup. Asked for more napkins from one of the wait staff. Then waited…and she came back…asking if we asked for napkins. Ok…

So we waited for our entree, and waited, waited some more, finally our entree. The pasta with tomato sauce wasn’t bad. Wasn’t the Asian type of pasta sauce, but still good. Omelet over Rice with shrimp was good as well. Char Siu rice bowl was ok. The pork was tough and wasn’t the flavor I could find else where.

Side note, the knife was fun to use. Looked like an ancient weapon.

The place is definitely pricey. Soup dumplings for $9, but only 3? I didn’t get it, so I hope it’s worth it! The rice bowl for $17.99? Had to get it, being first time here and thought it was safe bet.

Cool setup. Friendly staff. The food is just OK though. The noodle dish tasted like instant ramen. And the bao buns had virtually no filler. The omlette rice is really good. It is a nice concept though. I would probably go again.

What a pretty fun place. Instagramable food and drinks. Both mocktails and cocktails and kid friendly. I recommend every drink and our Xmas party tried many. I liked the egg and katsu, rice bowl, dim sum, noodles with veggies mushrooms and shrimp. The ribs and corn were the best. Delicious. The desserts are to die for. Both French toast and the eyeball ice cream bun as well as the panda boba and tofu pudding. The lisa food outstanding. Chicken nuggets for the win.

I have been so excited for an authentic Chinese place to open in Rockland County, and I’m glad I came to Sing Choi Kee on opening day! I ordered the char siu buns and the char siu Teppanyaki noodles, both of which were great. The char siu sauce was tasty and slightly sweet. The veggies in the noodle dish were fresh. The dough of the buns were the right amount of fluffy. The service was a train wreck, but they were apologetic, and I’m not going to ding them too hard on that since it was opening day. But, the host Barbra was beyond terrific. My daughter wanted to meet the Fox mascot who was out meeting kids for opening day but had finished by then. Barbra said “someone’s gonna put on the suit for her” and it absolutely made my daughter’s day. I look forward to the restaurant working its service kinks out and to come back for more delicious food!

Had a great Tuesday night dinner! No wait, fast service, and a beautiful, clean atmosphere.

The Highlights:
Curry Chicken Omelet: 10/10. My absolute favorite.
Teriyaki Beef Noodles: Tastes exactly like Japchae! A must-try for Korean food fans.
Misty Jasmine Cocktail: Strong and delicious.

Pro-Tip: Scan the QR codes for freebies!
A few notes: The soup dumplings are tasty but need soup spoons to save your tongue from the heat! Also, the pineapple bun is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, though I’d prefer it with butter next time instead of ice cream. Can’t wait to come back for the scallops!

THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL NIGHT!!! My family (party of 7) found this new place by chance after a sour experience at PICANHA. The experience was just amazing the moment we were seated, we were welcomed as if we were family members!! The food was amazing and authentic! This is coming from a world traveler who has had first hand experience with Hong Kong’s gastronomy culture! Service was top notch, from the hostess to the waiter and waitress who waited and checked in on us constantly ensuring our needs were met. As if these were enough, the presentation of the food and the aesthetic and ambiance of the establishment exceeded my expectations.

We were here to celebrate my niece’s 6th birthday. She loved her kids meal that came in a “car”, and thank you for making her feel special with the birthday French toast and greeting!!

We can’t thank you enough. You’ve just made it to the top of our list!

The service at this new restaurant was really disappointing. Our food took forever to come out, and when it finally did, the waiter didn’t even know what we ordered. We had to repeat ourselves multiple times, and it still felt like they weren’t paying attention. For a new place, I expected much better. The place are not even busy and we have to wait for our food for 1 hour and one of our oreer of soup dumplings he forgot to put it in so after an hour he told us that we have to wait additional 20 minutes as they need to make a fresh batch. Smh!

The food are decent, i would say a bit more options like baked rice would be nice, since it is standard for any HK style restaurants in the city. The bear drinks tho are impressive and even entertaining for my daughter. I for sure will return often.
