All-in-all if you’re in the mood for Pho and are on the peninsula this place is well worth a visit.
**This has been one of our favorite restaurants for a long time, but they are really slipping in the service department recently. The last 2 times we have been here they have not brought what our kids ordered. And this last time not only did they bring the incorrect order once but when they went in the back to fix it they brought the incorrect order again.
They have been so good for so long that I’m sure we will give them one more try, but as it stands I cannot recommend this place with this level of service.
We have driven by it many times in the past, but have always hesitated because the lack of activity.
For that being said the other day our very nice neighbor gave us a gift certificate to Simply Pho, we decided to use it last night for dinner.
Many items on the menu looked good and tempting, but because I couldn’t figure out really what I had a craving for, I played it safe and ordered Yakisoba noodles and white rice. My husband decided to try their Katsu chicken that also came with a side of white rice and it appeared to be a scoop of their Chinese salad, at least we think it was the Chinese salad.
I was happy with the amount of Yakisoba noodles I received, and there appeared to be plenty of vegetables and small pieces of chicken throughout, the dish was not spicy, but each table had a variety of sauces, in fact, each table also had straws as well as several unwrapped (I wish they would of been wrapped for sanitary reasons) chopsticks in a dual holder, for convenience. Overall the Yakisoba noodles were pretty good.
My husbands Katsu chicken was yummy, moist on the inside and due to the panko crust, crunchy on the outside, the dipping sauce for the chicken was extremely tasty and on the sweeter side; and of course a scoop of that salad, that was one item we did not care for; it was rather bland, and the sauce/seasoning wasn’t familiar tasting like many other Chinese salads I have eaten in the past.
The restaurant overall appears to be a little dated, but where we sat, it looked to be reasonably clean and no dirty tables or dirty floors that I could see. I wasn’t excited about the chairs, I switched out my chair because of how uncomfortable it was, and I honestly couldn’t tell you if all the tables had a variety of chairs, but ours did.
I never visited the restrooms, so I am unable to voice my opinion on them.
I was unable to get the name of our server because there were a total of three different people.
It was seat yourself, and the first server came with menus and asked if we wanted something to drink, she reappeared a few minutes later with our drinks then a couple of minutes later to take our order. Wasn’t chatty but smiled a lot. (And at the end of our meal, she left our ticket.)
About 20 minutes later another server delivered our food, didn’t say much other than making sure who ordered what dish.
Then a third server came with a pitcher of water to refill our glasses, she smiled and didn’t say anything at all.
The three servers I would say were amiable but impersonal.
Simply Pho is a stand-alone restaurant with ample parking,
Depending on which way you are traveling on Wheaton Way, can be a bit tricky and frustrating entering and leaving the parking lot, especially during rush hour.
We decided we will return to Simply Pho eventually to try out a couple of other items on their menu. My hopes would be the servers would be a little more friendly and not just amiable.
Our two meals together with drinking just water was around $22.00.
