SILVER LAKE – CLOSED

When it’s good, I try to be rewarding. When it’s bad, I try to not shoot both barrels. When it’s really bad, like our last outing at Silver Lake Seafood Restaurant in Wilson, NC, then I pull the trigger on both barrels at the same time.

The once famous restaurant now sits on NC 58, dark, unattended with the adjoining dam breached, the lake dry and weeds growing on the lake bed, all not a pretty sight.

Anyone who ever cross US 301 or later I-95 into eastern North Carolina, surely ate at Silver Lake and the way the late Buck Dixon ran it, they all came back.

After the floods and Buck’s passing, things were never the same. We salute all those years that all those meals, all those oysters and all those parties feted so very many happy diners.

RIP…Silver Lake

I’ve tried Silver Lake many times through the years, over the multiple renovations. With the newest repair after the dam broke, the interior was redone very nicely. The old smell was gone, well lit, good food.

Oysters were good, not the best in the world, but still good. Food was fresh as well.

Love the staff, fun to talk with.

The last time I went it took 20 minutes to brr seated which I didn’t have a problem with but after being seated we weren’t seen again for our drinks for an additional 15-20 minutes.
After being seen we were going to get oyster’s from the the oyster bar but they had ran out.
We ended up leaving and going go The Mayflower.
I think this restaurant has a great setting and a good menu but it all needs to be updated and the staff needs to be evaluated and retrained.

I have eaten here 5 times now. It has not been Perfect ever time. One time the crab dip was a little cold, one time the service was a little slow for my liking, & for the New Year Dinner I think they should have had a couple of dessert to choose from. With all this being said I have been to 5 star restaurants in D.C. Jacksonville Fl., Cruise Ships, and others only one time per restaurant and had the same issues. They seem to me to care about this business a great deal, and that is why they get 5 stars from me. I will go back again and again. I hope you will support then to. Oh buy the me and my wife think the food compares to any restaurant we have been to.

(Good Food, Good people, Good Music, & a Good Time)

my husband was served stuffed crabs that smelled bad. he reported it to the waitress who reported it to the manager. the response was in the form of a question, did he want more shrimp in place of the rancid stuffed crabs. Of course he didn’t. He had already filled up on shrimp, hushpuppies, and French fries. We didn’t ask that they take the full price of his meal off our ticket, but it would have been nice if they had taken half the price off as half the seafood was bad. We have been going there for years and it has always been a gamble with the service and food, sometimes its good and sometimes its not. After tonight, I don’t think we will bother rolling that dice again. Silver Lake is permanently off our list of choices and that is a shame as it is only about 10 minutes away from home.

Had steamed oysters at the bar, and they were great. Service staff were very nice and attentive. Clean and appealing, and music was live and very good! Definitely will return to the oyster bar. Can’t speak to the other seafood.

Extremely pricey for frozen, poor quality food. We watched them take my daughter’s crab claws, solidly frozen, to the oyster steam room. When they were brought, 10-15 minutes after the rest of us had our food, they were rubbery and we had to ask the waitress the times to bring something to crack them with. Once good was served she never returned. No refills, no ‘Is everything okay? ‘ $75 for crappy food and worse service. Will not go back. Ever.

Lettuce on the salad bar was watery and brownish. Our server was very new to the restaurant and to waiting tables in general. Our appetizers took forever. I was one of four people in our group and I alone got my food 15 minutes before everyone else- at the same time as our appetizers finally came out. My fried shrimp and fried okra were soggy. Another person in our party had to her tuna steak back twice for being overly cooked. While being very clean, it definitely lacked ambiance such as music or caring customer service. We’ve lived in Wilson for 6 months and so far we’ve not been impressed with Eastern NC’s cuisine.
