This time my husband had a BLT which is not listed on the menu but they kindly made it… sandwich and french fries were great!!
Thank you Silver Diner for an option other than fast food at an airport!!
“Just eggs benedict” : layers consisting of sourdough bread, pesto, tomato slice, spinich, fake bacon, and what seemed a mixture of eggs and hollandaise sauce was not to my liking. Overall, it tasted much too salty: mostly the hollandaise sauce, I presume. Not sure about the pesto. The sweet tomato and spinach were fine. The bread at the bottom of stack was soggy. Perhaps if it had been toasted it wouldn’t have been so soggy.
Restaurant less than half full when i ate, around noon. Service was amazingly slow. Fortunately, I was in no rush.
When prompted for a tip, i was surprised that the lowest suggested percentage was 20%. To give my typical 18% or less i needed to enter manually.
The food isn’t the absolute best diner food you’ll ever have, but for an airport restaurant it’s surprisingly good. They feature locally farmed Amish eggs, make solid pancakes, and my wife absolutely loves their iced coffee.
If you don’t have time for a sit-down meal, their grab-and-go counter is a much better option than standard airport fast food. Even better, you can call ahead to place an order. That means you can call when your plane lands or as you’re going through security, and your food will be hot, ready to pick up and run.
While I can’t speak to lunch or dinner, if you’re looking for a breakfast spot at Baltimore/Washington International Airport, I highly recommend Silver Diner.
I was placed at a table adjacent to the bar. I waited a few minutes for a server, possibly as much as 10. He took my order. As of this moment, while I’m writing, I haven’t seen him in 30 minutes. Someone else brought my food, a different person took my plate. Don’t come here for a quick bite to eat. I have time to kill.
The steak made up for the severe lack of service, a steak knife might have been nice but I worked through it with the butter knife I was provided.
My server just passed the table to cash out another customer sitting 2 tables away and failed to check in or even look this direction.
Do not come here if you are in a hurry or out of patience.
The place was packed, servers were overwhelmed but amazing people.
The food was good, yum, and huge portions!
I LOVE the decor, theme items and the jukeboxes, wish I had quarters!
Unfortunately, this last visit left us disappointed. We chose to sit at the counter, and from the start, the service felt rushed and disconnected. The waiter asked what we wanted to drink as he quickly passed by, filled our coffee, and then set the cups down out of our reach without making eye contact. The same thing happened when he delivered our food. It felt like drop-and-go service the entire time.
Because we were seated right in front of the pickup station, we could clearly see the team throughout our meal. Not once did we see a smile from anyone working. It felt heavy. Hospitality is about more than delivering plates. It is about making people feel welcome, especially in an airport where travelers are already tired and stressed.
If I could offer one suggestion, it would simply be this: be kind and smile more. A genuine smile at the beginning, middle, and end of the experience makes a big difference. Guests feel it, and tips usually reflect it.
We truly enjoy the food and hope the service matches it on our next visit.
