Why would I come back: f you find yourself in Downtown Silver Spring and get thirsty there is one place you need to visit: Silver Branch Brewing Company.
Silver Branch has become a cornerstone of the Maryland craft beer scene. The original Lagerhaus & Biergarten in Silver Spring (just stumbling distance from the Metro) has a huge outdoor (it was a little chilly for outside when I visited, and welcoming warm space inside. Large community tables and smaller more intimate seating is built for connection. There were people playing board games when I visited.
They aren’t just local favorites; they’re world-class. Their flagship Glass Castle Czech-Style Pilsner recently took home a Gold Medal at the 2025 Great American Beer Festival.

The beers are good. I had a kölsch that was just right for a warm summer night, cold, not too sweet, and with the slightest edge. Worthy of its namesake style on the Rhine.
Atmosphere was pleasant in the outdoor passageway above the rail station. Loud trains pass by, but this adds to the ambience for me.
Service was good. You order off a QR but everything was efficient, attentive, and welcoming but not cloying.
Two beers and a bretzel cost over twenty five bucks here including tip. This deterred me from buying more beer or making a larger purchase to take away, full stop.
Psychology being what it is, I probably would have spent more overall if the prices were slightly lower.
The pizzas were amazing and definitely a highlight of the event. The staff was attentive, friendly, and kept everything running smoothly throughout the event. I would absolutely recommend this venue for both casual outings and professional gatherings.
When I had them cater an event, Christian personally delivered the pizzas, made set up easy, and everyone there enjoyed the food! Definitely recommend Silver Branch!
I am writing this in criticism of the overall service of this place. THE BEER IS FINE and I thoroughly enjoy their selections… Dr. Juicy being my favorite. The food is so so. On my numerous visits over the past couple of years, and at various times while they were open, food and service to me has always taken away from the really good beer being produced here. With food, the quesadillas were always my go to and never disappointed. Apparently, today, that food item is no longer being offered. When I ordered and was given the news, the bartender was short shrift with me and told me to scan the QR code. This is standard procedure here, but in my opinion I thought a little more service would have been warranted. I was willing to chalk it all up to experience until less than a minute after I asked about the quesadillas and was brushed aside, a woman customer walked in and wanted to order the same quesadilla….How she was treated was astonishing. A manager was brought out to explain, and he told the server to “comp” whatever she ordered. This happened in my presence and I was again disappointed by the disparity in treatment. The pint that I had ordered lost its taste. I did finish it as best as i could and ordered a six pack of one of their seasonal offerings to go. Like I said, the beer is good; too bad, the service or lack thereof, will ultimately lead to their demise.
Overall, “just okay.” I would consider it again if it was close but wouldn’t go out of my way. It’s fine. Good vibe.
