I’ve been coming to Silk Road ever since I started my first corporate job in 2007 after college. Today, I drove an hour with my best friend because we were craving Afghan food that feels like it came straight from your mother or grandmother’s kitchen. The food here has soul—it nourishes your spirit and truly feels made with love. In today’s world, it’s hard to find places like this.
Silk Road has been part of this community for 21 years, and that speaks volumes about their quality and dedication! Every time I visit, the food is consistently nutritious, high-quality, and prepared with halal meat. And oh my goodness, the fresh carrot and orange juices can make your body sing!
If you live in the area and haven’t explored Silk Road yet, you’re missing out on an incredible culinary adventure filled with exciting new flavors. I highly recommend trying their weekday lunch specials, which are a fantastic way to sample some of their most popular dishes. Trust me; once you get a taste, you’ll want to come back for more!
Today, my friend and I ordered family-style to share several dishes: the Kabuli Palaw and the Naringe Palaw rice, which are nothing short of phenomenal. We also tried the Bholani Potato for appetizers, which are fried pastries filled with a mixture of potato and fresh Afghan spices.
The unique flavors—cardamom, saffron, fresh orange peels, almonds, and pistachios—are just a glimpse of what’s on the menu. The Murgi Kabob was cooked to perfection, and they offer various meat options that cater to different tastes.
I also tried the Okra, which was incredibly delicious, along with the dumplings in a mouth-watering tomato yogurt sauce. The homemade bread and sauces are truly unique, elevating the entire experience.
The service here is beyond amazing; you can really feel the kindness, warm-heartedness, and dedication from the entire staff. I highly recommend the chai and desserts—even if you just stop by for that, it’s worth it!
Lastly, I love how authentic and cozy the atmosphere is. You genuinely feel like you’re visiting a family home, where mom or grandma is cooking just for you. Places like this are rare, and the community is incredibly lucky to have such a special gem. The food is cooked from the heart, and the flavors embody that sentiment. You’ll find yourself leaving with a full belly and a happy heart!
It was an unexpected find, and we’re so happy we stumbled upon it. This place has now become one of our family’s favorite spots — we will definitely be coming back often. Special thanks to the owner for his genuine hospitality and the warm welcome. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Afghan cuisine!
For the main course, the jumbo shrimp was cooked to perfection, and both the Shammi Kabob and Ghusfan Kabob were incredibly tender and packed with delicious flavors. Every bite was a delight!
