We’ve been to many dim sum places and this place is genuinely one of the best in terms of quality! It’s on the pricier end but considering the head chef is Michelin-starred, it’s very reasonable. The hargow skin is thin and chewy. The chicken feet flavour was perfect. The xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) were also so well-made. The service was also friendly and prompt. I highly recommend this place!!
Note: the XO sauce has a strong seafood flavour so just beware if you are sensitive to the taste
My husband and I’s favorite is the Cheung fun with crispy shrimp — it’s a must-try! We loved it so much that we ordered two. We also tried their xiao long bao, chive dumplings (off-the-menu special), mushroom bao, chicken puff (off-the-menu special), and siu mai. The variety of dishes made it easy to sample a little of everything, and each bite was consistently flavorful.
There are many other dim sum places that are much cheaper, but if you want quality dim sum over quantity, this is your spot.
With that said, I absolutely loved the food and can see why Silk Road is successful. The standout dish for me was the crispy shrimp cheung fun – so delicious, I ordered three or four of them. My goodness, the flavors and texture demand poetry.
We also ordered the classics – har gow shrimp dumplings, siu mai shrimp and pork wontons, turnip cake, xiao long bao soup dumplings, and chow fun. Solid. Flavorful. Consistent.
Silk Road put its own spin on the roasted bbq pork buns. The filling had a nice star anise sweetness that reminded me of pho. It wasn’t what I imagined, and it was an interesting take.
Another bun I enjoyed was the vanilla custard filled bun. Yum. I did not love the chive dumplings, but that is only my preference.
We rounded out dim sum by ordering dan ta egg custard. What a beautiful spin with the creme brûlée-esque flamed crispy shell.
Overall solid place and dangerously close to my office. I would come back for the crispy shrimp cheung fun alone!
Shout out to Tyler for excellent service and recommendations!
Xiao Long bao is highly recommended and you won’t find a same quality from any other restaurants or frozen ones you get from Costco or HEB.
Har Gaw on the left of the first pic is impressive with bouncy and fresh shrimp inside.
The seared turnip cake is a classic one but you won’t find the dried mini shrimp inside this one.
Stir fried noodle is not bad but overpriced.
