I’m late getting this review posted as you can see from date of ticket.
Review based on Tenderloin with Kettle chips and sliced brisket sandwich and onion rings.
Tenderloin- big but not pounded super thin. Breading had no flavor but stuff to the meat well.
Kettle chips- best thing about our meal
Brisket sandwich- covered in so much BBQ sauce you couldn’t taste anything other than that. Meat sliced thin and not a ton of fat in it thankfully.
Onion Rings- second best thing about the meal.
Atmosphere- We were there during lunch so not busy. Repairs being done to so tables so it was noisy. The place is nothing but pool tables. Guess that’s why it is called side pockets.
We stopped after an appointment in KC. Don’t think I will be visiting again. Now if you played pool then it may be a great place to go but not just for food.

Last night we went to Side Pockets specifically to watch UFC. That turned out to be an ambitious goal.
We sat at a dirty table but credit where it’s due: the barback was fantastic. He cleaned it fast, was polite, and genuinely helpful. He even tried to get the fights put on for us, couldn’t find the channel, and went to ask the manager.
The manager’s 1st response? He was “too busy” and would do it later.
Our waitress came to take our order but we told her if they weren’t playing over there we were gonna move so we didn’t want to start a tab over there and make things more complicated. She also assured it wouldn’t be a problem and went to ask him again. He walked by, she asked, and he snapped something like “We’re not putting the fights on these TVs.”
Meanwhile, several TVs were proudly airing 48 Hours with no captions — because nothing says Saturday night at a sports bar like silent true-crime reruns. If you go to bars hoping to catch Dateline-silence, look no further!
So we moved to the section where the fights were playing. That area looked like it had survived a food fight and a flood. Sticky chairs, liquid on tables, and the fights on 2 smaller TVs.
We sat down anyway ~MISTAKE~
It took 45 minutes to get one drink after we told the waitress we planned to order food. She said she’d be right back… and then disappeared for nearly an hour. At that point, we just asked for the check.
While waiting, the manager got on the loudspeaker to kick out anyone under 21, delivering what may have been the rudest announcement I’ve ever heard basically: “If you’re not 21 and with a parent, goodbye, we don’t want you here.”
By the time we paid, there was an actual line of people waiting to settle their tabs just to leave at a seated bar with table service.
The manager is serving drinks right next to this line behind the bar not making eye contact with anyone or saying a word like actually having to do his job was a complete inconvenience.
Shoutout again to the barback for being the only bright spot. Everyone else seemed determined to make sure no one enjoyed their evening.
In Summary: If you’re going for fights, service, or a clean place to sit, save your time and money. Stay home. BUT If you’re hoping to sip a SINGLE drink while silently watching 48 Hours and planning to stay hungry with a giant man baby pouting behind the bar bc he has to do his job this is definitely your place

Our server, Imani E was very good at serving our family of four but after receiving the bill for our food and drinks, I was a little upset. First, prices on the menus were less than the prices on the bill. Second, we were not informed that sauces cost extra for our sandwiches! Third, my daughter had changed her order from the combo nachos to a bacon cheeseburger, the nachos were to be canceled. I even told Imani that we had canceled the nachos when she told me they would be out soon after our orders arrived. She still brought it to us and it was charged for. Again, we had canceled it at the time we made our order! And lastly, we had four drinks, soda! We were charged for five! We think it’s because my daughter asked for Sprite instead of coke as her last refill! REALLY?!?! It comes from a soda fountain but you change the soda your drinking it is considered a new drink?!?! That’s wrong! My daughter changed her drink due to her upset stomach after eating. Not saying it was the food that upset her stomach.
Anyway, we enjoyed playing pool at side pockets. We even have decided it would be a great date night for our adult children and us. We won’t be eating there, though! The menu prices need updated, the price of sauces need to be made known known, and soda fountain drinks need to be made known if you’re changing the soda for another as a new drink! And, don’t think that your server is going to cancel an order if you change your mind while ordering.
Going through my receipt my bill should have been $94.50 plus tax (around $108) but it was $114.00 plus $11.94 tax! I spent $125.94 that we hadn’t expected to pay and I still tipped our server $26 because she did take care of our party refilling our drinks, bringing to go boxes, and cleaning off our table. Other than her mistake of not canceling the nachos and charging for a fifth drink she is a good server.

My Ladies group went in last night. We met at 6:00. It was the worst service I have ever received (I’ve been there plenty of times). Our waiter, Ethan, was the only one I saw in the back half of the bar. He kept forgetting items we asked for multiple times. There were huge periods of time that he didn’t check on our group. Apparently there was only one bartender for the entire place on duty. The drinks were extremely slow to get. Several of our group stood in line at the bar (because Ethan didn’t come back to check on us). The bartender was trying to get the tickets for the wait staff, as well as the line forming. It was ridiculous. If I’d have driven myself, I would have left long before we did. Once some of the original crowd left, Ethan was very attentive. We ordered another round. It took probably 20 minutes to get to us. The bartender needs a raise after last night. You need more people. That was absolutely horrible service!

We called many times and no one picked up then went up there ordered 2 tenderloin sandwiches. I have been here many times and ordered their sandwiches. I have never seen one sandwich look so small and the other one was normal. NO seasoning whatsoever in the beading….Wait time for two tenderloin sandwiches to go was literally over 30 minutes.

After paying for a few games of pool we were rudely asked to leave as (league play) was starting. We had no problem leaving and there was no problems until one of the staff members (champagne) decided to raise her tone after we mentioned wanting to finish the game we payed for. This interaction has made me rethink about visiting again. 1/10 experience.

I believe we were served by Lauren. She didn’t tell us her name, it was the name on the ticket. No clue what we did that made her dislike us at the table but she often ignored us so we had to go to the bar which apparently bothered her even more. We noticed she visited other tables much more often and we would have to ask twice for things which also seemed to bother her. We tried to be kind and just said we are sure your busy. My wife said she straight up ignored her and one of my friends said she made a rude comment when said friend finally went to the bar for a drink and passed Lauren by. She never apologized once or even tried to be friendly. No clue what the problem was. Normally this place is great. We considered moving to a new table to avoid her but just left for a new bar.

Server was bad. Bartender… she wasn’t good either. Not trying to be mean… or a Karen… but I always thought I was an inadequate bartender… now I think I was a bad ass bartender… went to go back up to the bar where I got my first drink from and server said he would just get them for me… took 20 minutes for our drinks to be brought to us. Was charged for 3 doubles 2 singles…. Only 1 double and that was mine. The place was dead for NYE!! Went to get shots and bartender…. (Who knew exactly who our table was couldn’t tell me what kind of tequila they were drinking at our table for me just to buy shots. I was told by the bartender that that was a question for our server. Dark and kinda stuffy atmosphere…and I love the old side pockets in independence and blue springs. I would defiantly pick somewhere else… and my double was a very weak single.

We were playing pool up until about 1:15 and they started getting an attitude and trying to kick us out. It shows they close at 1:30. They were being very rude and said we need to finish our game. When my friend responded “we are trying”, the lady responded “no you’re not”. Overall an annoying experience. Don’t post a 1:30 closing time if you’re not going to adhere to it.

We arrived Friday night at about 9pm and not 1 person approached us for service. I went to the bar for drinks and waited another 5-10 minutes as people passed by me before someone finally asked if I needed anything. After that I had to run someone down to order food. The service was also less than friendly.
