The chef (rocking a Cubs hat) is from Chicago and the menu has this perfect Midwest comfort food energy, but executed with real skill.
Highlights: bone marrow (immediately yes) and the gnocchi that’s inspired by a roast beef sandwich + giardiniera (!!). Service was A+ across the board. One of my favorite meals in months, can’t wait to take people here.
The Garbage Salad is excellent and a large enough portion for two, serving as a great opener.
The bone marrow had a bit too much going on, but the texture was great and served as a solid counterbalance to the bread.
The risotto was thick and creamy with a marked sweet- and spiciness to it.
The halibut was a distinct disappointment in that it was unevenly cooked with a dry exterior and undercooked interior.
If I were ever to return to this establishment it would be solely for the salad, as it was one of the superior examples of salad that I have ever had.
This is a newer establishment that has a few things to work out.
We tried the chicken cutlet and the cheeseburger, and both were outstanding. The cutlet had a unique, memorable flavor, while the burger—enhanced with bone marrow—was rich and unforgettable. Portions were generous, perfect for sharing.
For dessert, the ice cream cup was a highlight, with one side infused with coffee and the other with a refreshing orange twist. Smooth, creative, and delicious.
Yes, the space is small and bustling, and the noise level can be high—but the warm service and incredible food make it well worth it.
A place that charges over $20 for salads and sides and $18 for desserts shouldn’t have that “because we feel like it” 6% surcharge and definitely not a 3% credit card processing fee. It just left me feeling taken advantage of after an otherwise nice but pricey meal.
Highlight of the salad for me was the cheese; it was light with floral notes. The pork wasn’t too fatty and everything went really well together, though I didn’t really think the dill string beans added much.
Gnocchi texture was amazing since they pan fry it a bit, so you get both a bit of crisp with the soft chewiness of the gnocchi! I usually get tired of the texture by the end but I enjoyed every bite of this dish. Shrimp was also well cooked and a little spicy.
I’d love to come back but would probably only make a reservation again if I had a very, very special occasion. The sticker shock of seeing ~$25 appetizers and ~$40 for most entrees left me speechless once I sat down and saw the menu with numbers lol. Was too full for the ice cream, which is a swirl in a paper espresso cup ($9). They do give a lot of food, which might justify the prices, but I wish it were less food and lower prices…
If you do visit, be sure to make a reservation. It seems difficult to accommodate parties of even 4 people, but there are more tables for parties of 2.
