Homestyle family run chinese place. Good szechuan food, large portions, good for the price. Recommend the Cumin lamb and mapo tofu. Ask for vinegar and enjoy with rice.
Service is funny and friendly, and you can get a table even on a saturday night no problem.
Don’t come here expecting fancy service and bells and whistles. Come here for good fresh food at a decent price that is consistent and tasty. 6/5

This place is so cool. It’s a hole in the wall with spotty service and EXCELLENT food. I come here when I need a Sichuan pepper fix and want to feel like I’m breathing out LIGHTENING!
I get the dan dan noodles and mapotofu.

Very quiet place, but the food is fantastic! I wasn’t sure what I’d eat after washing my car, but this absolutely hit the spot.
We ordered:
PK5: Pork dish that looks half eaten in the photo
CS12: Spicy chicken dish with plenty of veggies!
I’ve always passed by this location anytime I’ve gone to Central Market, but I think might have to be one of my new favorites places to eat at especially if I’m going to go do some shopping
Again I can’t stress how good this place is! It makes me wish we had more Chinese restaurants down south!

New to the area and looking for good Chinese food. Fyi, we’re Chinese American from New York and have lived abroad in China, so we weren’t expecting much. Especially based on the outdoor and indoor decor and atmosphere.
But had a friendly server and asked what she recommended. We went with the hot and spicy jumping fish and dry pot chicken. Both were excellent. So much so that my wife said she missed Chinese food like this. Got the fried string beans and chicken Lo mein for the kids, both of which were excellent as well. The food came out very quickly as well.
Portions were large, took enough home for another small meal.
Sadly the Asian buffet next door was packed and Sichuan River was mostly empty aside from some takeout orders. I’d guess the quality at a buffet is subpar (I haven’t been there). Give this place and chance, would love to see it stick around as it’s so close to home in south Austin. Will be going back.

Outrageously good Sichuan food. Everything was fresh, and prepared perfectly. The service was attentive and responsive. This is a nice, quiet restaurant without the noise of most restaurants with food this good. There aren’t many hidden gems in Austin these days, but this is one. Order authentic dishes and be blown away.

My husband and I recently moved here from NYC and finally found our go-to Chinese restaurant. The food here is better than anything we could get in our neighborhood in NYC and when we ordered over Thanksgiving it also got my mom’s seal of approval.
Favorites so far are the tofu dry pot if you like spice, or the home style tofu if you want something milder. I’m also a big fan of the green beans, broccoli in garlic sauce, and vinegar cabbage. Every time I order I get large portions, and they always understand when I explain that I’m vegan and suggest new dishes. Can’t wait to try more.

Everything was amazing. We came here Thanksgiving day and part of the restaurant didn’t have power. We were skeptical of staying but we stayed and ordered. The food came out fast and fresh. The people were very nice and the portions were so big that we took some home and also ate it for dinner. Everyone was friendly and inviting. I highly recommend.

Not sure what happened to all the reviews for this place as this establishment has been present for over 5 years now.
Seems like someone deleted and recreated the restaurant on Google maps.
Service is decent, the host and server is the same, more like family owned restaurant. Gives you a feeling of a cozy spot.
Prices are okay, reasonable for the quantity, but quality of food could definitely be better.
Food is sub par tbh, not really that cozy/ homely taste.
When we asked the server that one particular was overly salted, they suggested that we order something different for next time and gave an alternative which supposedly isn’t that salty.
Won’t recommend coz of the food taste.

Excellent authentic Szechuan-inspired food, not the dumbed-down American-style that often passes for Szechuan in other Chinese restaurants. My only suggestion is that they offer brown rice in addition to white. Otherwise Sichuan River is as good or better than any that I’ve found coming from New York City, where there are many great Szechuan restaurants but none with as friendly staff, large potions and reasonable prices as this place. Convenient location off Westgate Blvd, almost next door to Black Swan Yoga. I keep coming back for more!

Had lunch here today – tried the Hot & Spicy beef and Sichuan Stir Fried Chicken. The beef is so tender and soft and comes in a rich, spicy gravy + chili oil – we LOVE this dish. Fried chicken was a bit sad for us , which is why I’m docking a star – mostly very small pieces and lot of breading-only chunks but if we got a good size piece with some seasoning on it, it was tasty. Our server was very nice and gave good recommendations. The restaurant was quiet and not busy on a Saturday mid-day. We’ll definitely be back for the beef dish and to try some other specialities!
