Reviews
We tried quite a few dishes — the Gobhi Garlic was flavorful and well-made, though a few bites were a little soggy. Paneer Tikka was classic and nicely done, served with a tasty green chutney. The Chicken Cheese Burst Kebab had good flavor and melted cheese in the middle, though the accompanying salad—especially the lettuce—was wilted and not as crispy as we would like.
The Dal Makhni was excellent — hot, creamy, and rich, like it had just come off the stove. Malai Kofta was flavorful, though a touch sweeter than our preference. Garlic Naans were warm and nicely seasoned, served cut up in a basket.
We also tried the Manchow Soup, which was perfect for a cold day. It tasted great, but it would have been even better if the crispy noodles were served on the side rather than mixed in — they lost their crunch quickly. The Chilli Garlic Fried Rice was well made and paired well with everything. We also tried Rose Lassi, which was good but leaned a bit more on the rose flavor and could use a hint more cardamom.
The ambience was inviting — clean, spacious, and with a lively bar setup. Service was attentive and polite. We had reservations, but it seemed we could have walked in without much wait. Only small suggestion: most Indian restaurants place spoons alongside the fork and knife, but here they were missing. Not a big deal, but worth noting.
Overall, Siṃha offers a good mix of traditional flavors with a modern vibe. We enjoyed our lunch and would be happy to visit again.
I have an issue with cilantro which can often be an issue. The staff worked to find all the items I can order that either don’t come with cilantro or can be adjusted to make without! Everything was delicious! I loved the garlic Mushroom soup SO much! Rich and creamy! The spice levels allow for me to indulge in my love of heat without compromising on flavour!
We shall be back!
My Shrimp Tikka Masala was the best I’ve ever had. My husband’s Butter Chicken was so yummy he was eating the extra sauce with the spoon. The Chicken Cheese Kebab appetizer was 4 yummy chicken meatballs stuffed with cheese served with a slightly spicy green sauce that makes the dish.
Try the desserts! Different and delicious!
Here’s the backstory: a few of my friends were moving out of Providence, and we all decided to have dinner here. We were excited for some good Indian food.
The good:
• Malai chicken – good
• Fried rice – good
• Mint paneer tikka – good
• Dhaba-style chicken gravy – good (except for the big tomato chunks)
The not-so-good:
• Price: way too expensive. Most dishes were above $25.
• Quantity: very small portions. Coming from India and living in the U.S., I know portions here are usually generous, but not in this case.
• Naan: didn’t taste authentic at all.
• Chicken starter: honestly inedible, we couldn’t even eat it.
• The shocker: they charged $16 just for onions, green chili, and lemon. I’ve never seen that anywhere – it was ridiculous.
To be fair, they did give us complimentary gulab jamun at the end since we were a big group. But the total bill still came to around $600.
My main issue isn’t even the food or price at this point – it’s the attitude. One of my friends left an honest review, and the restaurant’s response was downright rude. A place should be open to constructive criticism, not dismiss it.
The menu has a lot of offerings, even some fusion dishes that sounded really interesting. They also had a specials menu. The drinks list was extensive; their cocktails are creative, including their mocktails too. I tried the lychee martini which was good and not sweet which I enjoyed—would have liked a little more lychee flavor though. My husband got one of the mocktails which was refreshing.
We tried a bunch of appetizers (wings, Indian fries, and kebab) as well as the baingan bharta which is a delicious eggplant dish. It came with rice. Spice level was good. Next time we want to try more entrees.
The staff was very friendly and attentive. They checked in on us often and made sure our water glasses were always filled. Prices are reasonable. We definitely plan to return to try more items!
We started off with a large assortment of appetizers (no pics because we ate them so fast). The gobhi garlic and samosa chaat were my favorite for starters. The gobhi had a great sauce to it, and the samosa was deconstructed, which I really enjoyed with the drizzled sauce.
For mains, we had a wide assortment of naans, classic buttered chicken, biryani. The bullet and honey ginger naan were amazing, something I hadn’t tasted before. The honey ginger naan was almost like a sweet treat, a great compliment to the spices in the main dishes.
We topped it off with dessert, getting gulab jamun cheesecake and rasmalai. The gulab jamun cheesecake was delicious and quite a unique dish. The rasmalai was sweet and spongey, with enough of a nutty taste at the end.
All in all, a great place to try some original/authentic and new/creative Indian dishes!
Highly recommend family style to try a wider variety of dishes.
Staff were outstanding. Offered full explanation of all dishes as well as choices of heat levels for each.
Luckily, being British provided me with the necessary expertise to submit an accurate review of Indian food, as well as the excuse of why ‘s’ is used in place of ‘z’.
Seriously, from entering until the cheque ( ), we could not identify any room for improvement. Food quality was exceptional and the portion sizes were very reasonable.
For seasoned Indian cuisine connoisseurs, this is the place. For beginners, this place will get you hooked.
5 well deserved stars!
