Shy Bear caters to people who are looking to elevate a traditional brewery experience. Our eclectic food is designed to match the complex flavors of our craft beer made on site. The decor and ambiance makes many feel like they’re on vacation. The service we strive to achieve with our guests is friendly, upbeat and approachable. We are solar powered, dog friendly (on the porch and patio) and feature live music from a variety of local, talented musicians every Sunday at 4pm (and very likely more often). Come see for yourself why everyone is talking about Shy Bear.

Side note… clean bathroom, which is always important!
The brewery is surrounded by greenery and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, perfect for enjoying a good beer with friends.
I was particularly impressed by their beer selection. They have a great variety of styles, from classic IPAs to more experimental brews. They even had a great selection of their own non-alcoholic beverages…one particularly notable option was the Handcrafted Maple Infused Cream Soda!
The staff at Shy Bear is incredibly friendly and helpful. They were happy to answer all of our questions about the beer and the food, and they made us feel right at home.
Overall, my experience at Shy Bear Brewing was fantastic. The atmosphere, the beer, the food, and the staff were all absolutely spectacular. If you’re ever in the Lewistown area, I highly recommend checking it out.
I had the redfish in a Thai green curry and I paired that with their Mexican lager. Both were really tasty. My server was wise in that she warned me that the green curry was spicy but I went ahead with it and I was so glad I did.
If you are looking for a relaxed environment that has great food and beer and, they are very dog friendly… then you should go out of your way to stop at Shy Bear. You will be glad you did.
We stopped after seeing the menu online. They offer dishes that are not the normal pub food.
We had Korean Pork Belly Tacos, Philly cheese steak, fish and chips, hamburger and deep fried cheese curds.
I must say, I will make the 2.5 hour drive for the tacos.
My husband and I enjoyed them that much.
2 other people in our group had the fish and it was unbelievably crunchy. Soo good.
Everybody who tried the cheese curds all said that they were extremely good.
Service was great and we got our orders pretty quick.
All in all, great place to stop if your in the area or out for a long motorcycle ride like we were.
On this visit we took our dog for the first time and also dined outside which we hadn’t done before. The service was excellent including to the dog, who got a bowl of water and some hugs which she loved. It was a hot day and the shade cover and fans made the space comfortable.
The food is always interesting and adventurous featuring flavors of Korean Barbecue, Thai curry as well as pork belly, nachos, tacos, flatbreads, cheese curds, great fries and other shareables. Often I’d rate the food a 5, but on this day a solid 4.
Shy Bear also has a busy music program using their outdoor stage, but I haven’t experienced that yet.
I’ve been to Shy Bear at least a half dozen times and will definitely be back. If you’re in Central PA or passing through, it’s worth a stop.
I forgot to mention I always grab a few 4-packs to go! Such a beautiful beverage.
