This soul food spot was so good! Everything was seasoned to perfection! The cabbage was delicious. The chicken was delicious! Even the red velvet cake I didn’t take a picture of it, but that was good too! The lady at the counter was super nice! The portions were great! Will be coming back again to try more options! Way better than the casasst ave location! very much night and day! I give this Location 4.5 out of five!

✨First time visiting Shut Em Down…. truly authentic southern soul food reasonably priced. I ordered a veggie plate ( select 3 vegetables). Mom ordered ribs with Mac n cheese. Both dishes were filling. Ribs were very tender and falling off the bone. Cornbread was sweet and tasty.
I was very impressed with the young professionals working at the register. They were very hospitable with good attitudes.

We’re so glad we stopped in and tried this restaurant when we were passing through. The food was delicious with decent sized portions. The food came out quickly and was fresh. My husband and I got the smothered pork chops and Mac, mashed pots, rice and collards. All was delicious and perfectly seasoned. The Sweet tea was perfectly sweetened and fresh. The tea urns are obviously cleaned thoroughly and regularly (IYKYK). The cleanliness of the establishment was on point, over all. My son loved the fried chicken and Mac. The staff was very friendly and anticipated our needs and came to the table to offer refills which was a thoughtful and appreciated touch since orders are taken at the counter. Overall we had a great experience and will be back on our next trip to JAX.

Me and my fiance tried this place today and I must say the food was better than it seemed. I ordered the fish along with cabbage and it was really good to my liking. I guess the only thing that I would change is having to fish fried maybe a little harder. My fiance ordered the smothered pork chop and she said that it was really good. The candied yams had a bit of a different flavor but overall it was okay. I would definitely give this restaurant another try. Something to try on my weekend back from truck driving school..

This place was amazing! Soul food restaurants a lot times miss the market, but this was very delicious. We came from out of town and it was so good we went back on our way out. Bith times food was out in less than 10 mins and piping hot. Their atmosphere has people from all walks of life. We had the pork chops, fried and smothered, the fried chicken, lime beans, Mac n cheese, cabbage, greens and potato salad.

We’re visiting from Chocolate City (Washington, D.C.) and while passing through Jacksonville, we intentionally searched for Black-owned restaurants to support. This establishment was one of the first to come up.

When we arrived, we noticed that most of the front-of-house staff—including the cashier and a woman who identified herself as one of the owners—appeared to be of European descent. The only Black staff member we saw was working in the kitchen. While this may not matter to everyone, it’s worth noting for those, like us, who are making a conscious effort to support Black-owned spaces specifically.

As for the food—it was solid. We both had the oxtails over rice with collard greens. The rice could’ve been better, but the oxtails and black-eyed peas were definitely enjoyable. I’d give it a strong 7.5 to 8 out of 10 overall. We’d come back and would recommend it to others for the food.

Just a heads up: based on our experience, this establishment may not be Black-owned as listed.

The absolute best!!!

Edit: As much as I love their fried chicken, I’m not returning because they refused to use my conditioners for take outs. I won’t be supporting a business that doesn’t care about the environment.

Shut Em Down Authentic Southern Restaurant is the real deal when it comes to soul food. Everything was amazing, but the smothered pork chops truly stood out—they took me straight back to being in my grandmother’s kitchen. The flavors are rich, comforting, and made with love. This spot is an absolute must-visit every time I’m in Jacksonville. Highly recommend!
