TL;DR: Will be back.

So far, Best steamed dumplings in an area relatively close to Southampton county. I typically frequent the Great Wall in Franklin but dislike their and Chinese Express Restaurant’s Dumplings (they use the super thick dumpling wrap and non typical dumpling sauces).

The only foul with Shun Xing’s dumplings is the dipping sauce… It’s savory… But a bit sweet and rich too… I prefer the tangy garlicky sauce… I added some lemon juice and soy sauce to Shun Xing’s and it helped!

The Chicken Teriyaki appetizer they use decent sized chunks of Meat and it’s as good as you’d expect it to be from a well rated place.

The combination dinners were pretty typical. Their Boneless spare rib sauce was a little darker than other places but the flavour is good!

My only gripe is that I wish the fried rice were cooked to be a bit fluffier and not as clumpy… But good flavor nonetheless.

I recommend this place based on this first, but not last visit… And I’m someone that’s traveled all over the country and reviewed many venues (check my stats).

So, decided to go after this place in Windsor as opposed to Hong Kong… The reviews were about the same so I just figured people chose their favorites…

When I got in someone was making an order in person, not on phone… I got asked if I was picking up. Nope, first time and checked out the menu. Asked about the Bourbon Chicken and she explained that it’s a deep fried breaded chicken item that would take 20 min. (Don’t know why everyone across the JRB does bourbon chicken like this, assume it’s provincial based… But China Ocean in Newport News doesn’t bread theirs and it’s one of my all time favorites)

Since she explained the reality of the situation, I changed my order to Boneless spare rib combo, Moo Goo Gai Pain Combo, Steam Dumplings, and Chicken Teriyaki (appetizer).

While I waited, there came in 3-4 different people with pickup orders… Apparently this place IS really popular with locals and food lovers. The gentleman before me got his order and I would get mine after about 15 – 20 min. Of waiting which I did not mine… I was happy to see the place busy, impressively being serviced primarily by a 2 person team… A younger staff would become available within the last 5 min. Of my visit.

Check my TL; DR above… If I want American Chinese and I don’t want to drive an hour… I’m definitely returning to Shun Xing in Windsor

I don’t leave bad reviews unless it’s really bad. People make mistakes. People have off nights. I’ve worked in service.

Tonight we ordered over $100 worth of food, family of 6, intentions to have lunches for a few days also. All three orders of general Tso’s chicken were raw. We do not live close by. We hike to this place because the other times we’ve been, the food has been really really good. I called to have the chicken refunded because we couldn’t eat it. Not the whole order, just the general tso’s.

The lady who answered the phone put me on the phone with another guy because she couldn’t understand me. He proceeded to full on yell at me about how it was impossible for the chicken to be undercooked. He didn’t speak firmly or raise his voice, he absolutely yelled.

He then called back half an hour later and tried to explain to me the difference between white and dark meat and then went back to yelling at me that I don’t trust him and he’s been cooking for 15 years and I must be wrong. I understand that dark meat can have a pink tinge. I’ve been cooking for 25 years. I also know that raw chicken is pink and translucent and can give you salmonella.

Had he not yelled at me and then called back to yell some more, I wouldn’t be writing this. Good luck.

Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the food is excellent and reasonable priced with good portion sizes. Had the chicken curry which was simple and well made/spiced as well as the boiled dumplings and Singapore Mei Fun. Would definitely recommend.

The food here was surprisingly bad. I hope it was just bad luck. The seafood smelled a little strong which was my first clue I had made the wrong choice. The General Tso’s chicken was not a normal sauce, it was more ketchupy. The curry chicken was okay but not great. But worst of all it gave us all a bad case of food poisoning. We won’t be back. We have had good luck with Hong Kong down by Food Lion and a family member has been in their kitchen and it is super clean. I should have stuck with what I know.

This is the ONLY Chinese place within 30 min of Franklin open on Sundays and I could not believe they’re open until 9pm. We ordered for the first time tonight.

When I called in my order, they called me back a few min later to make sure I knew where it was located (next to the car wash, between the laundromat and spray tanning places). Part of their light-up sign isn’t working, so I really appreciated them checking. I could tell that they were working really hard to understand me–I think the wife has a hard time and is still learning, so be patient!

We ordered the family special–it is $30.99 before taxes, <$35 after taxes. Food tasted great--it was all that we expected for ordering Chinese food. Portion sizes were HUGE! You get to order 4 large items and it comes with very generous portions of rice. We chose Curry Beef, House Fried Rice, General Tso's Chicken, and Sesame Chicken.

I might add that if you’re worried about cleanliness, the place smelled like bleach and smelled like they take cleaning seriously in the back.

Let’s take care of our small businesses!

The food: slimey meat in the pancit and that older lady that just threw my bag up onto the counter and turned and walked away was very rude to me. Will never again purchase food from this terrible place. Needs to be reported to the Health Department.

Went in to get my order paid with my debit card and the lady told me my card was declined so I said ok and paid with cash cause cards get declined for no reason all the time. Went home checked my account and they did change me and I paid cash it was a $65 order. I called up to the restaurant and told the lady Then she starts yelling at me saying she didn’t charge my card. I said miss I have proof. She continues to yell at me so I hang up. I thought well it’ll just fall off. Nope. I had to dispute the transaction to receive my money back. It was a very unpleasant experience. Then the food wasn’t that good the rice was very dry and sweet and sour chicken & shrimp were fried like rocks. Definitely not worth the $130 I was charged or the $65 it actually cost and the hassle of having to get refunded because I was charged twice.

Stopped in for a quick bite about 130pm on a Monday. Had a direct view into a very clean kitchen… Everything was cooked to order, tasted fresh and was piping hot. Don’t expect any kind of atmosphere here but definitely great for take out. A pleasant surprise.

The coconut shrimp was the highlight. Good quality Chinese takeout and a very friendly lady at the counter more than makes up for the dated interior. Well worth stopping at.
