I’m sure I don’t need to tell you because if you’re looking at this listing, you already know… This place is amazing. Some of the very best barbecue and brisket I’ve ever had. Try the Gouda mac & cheese. It’s surprisingly wonderful combination of a little bit of pepper and a whole lot of wonderful cheese! Come check this place out!

Drove over from Belleville to eat with friends and it was well worth the drive! They offer a military discount, much appreciated. And they have an option to buy a bun with their platters, which very few places do, so it made a nice heaping smoked turkey sandwich. We had the turkey and brisket, and both were on point. We had fun trying the various sauces they provide. No one likes barbecue exactly the same way, so it’s nice that you can add your type of sauce, if you want it. The barbecue beans, potato salad, and gouda Mac and cheese were all great. The place is big and nicely decorated with movie memorabilia, and the staff didn’t push us along while we talked for several hours. One last small but major thing, they don’t present your bill when you pay with a tipping option, which i appreciated. If I order at the counter and you hand me my food and I grab my drink, no tip, as you don’t do anything to earn it. I’m perfectly cool with that.
The bottom line is with prices as high as they are now you’d better give people good value for the money and this place does! We’ll be back, a great experience!

Good food at a very affordable price. We had pork steak platter and you cut it with a fork that’s how tender it was. The sauces were good too but didn’t need much since the meat and sides had so much flavor. Great decor and music was cool.

The flavor of the food was pretty good, except everything was cold. The ribs barely had any meat on them; however, the brisket and turkey was nice. Definitely overpriced for what we received. We were traveling through town and this place came highly recommended.

I didn’t need to add sauce to these ribs and I enjoyed the sides (which doesn’t happen often at many good rib spots). In addition to the food the location is great with bars and at town center is cute with some shops. We like traveling to stl for ribs but now with this being located 45min closer we will save the gas.

We started out over at The Stubborn German Brewing Company first, not knowing we could get food here and bring it over. We’ll know better next time because both locales were great. Shorty’s Smokehouse had a really good combo deal which gave you a little of everything and two sides. The meat was smoked superbly and the three sauces they had complimented their selections. I cannot express how much we enjoyed eating here. I smoke my own meats all the time, so I’m aware of the taste, texture, and color. This place does a bang up job. Of course the smell inside is fantastic, but the actual decor to me was really nostalgic. They hit the 80’s-90’s movie theme. If you geek out about past movies, fads, or just memory lane stuff from this time era, get there. I even was digging on the design of the bathrooms. Very spacious, cool brick wall look and clean. I recommend and will come back when I’m in Waterloo again.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! What a wonderful place. The staff is amazing, so genuinely friendly! The food is the bomb! We have tried a lot of the menu and we’ve never had anything we didn’t like. It’s worth the drive from St. Louis. Just writing this review is making me want to drive over for more. If you love BBQ you should do yourself a favor and give them a try. You can thank me later

Great BBQ! We had pork steak and turkey, both were really good. Sides good but baked beans were spicy hot and slaw was a little sour. Very clean, great atmosphere and good service. You can dine in or carry out. You can also carry food over next door to Stubborn German, a bar that sells beer.
