What happened to Shoney’s? Many locations closed up years ago and left a few open, but really…what happened to the delicious food? We visited here on our way home from Maggie Valley, NC. We wanted to try here a few years back when we were staying in Dillard but I am sooo glad we didn’t. This was the first and last time we will go here and let me explain why. The bar was so small, we were able to make one pass and everything fit on one plate. The salad bar had BROWN romaine, reddish brown cucumbers, the broccoli was sad looking, the tomatoes were squishy, the croutons were stale and it was all mixed up in the containers on the bar. Everything…just MIXED. The fried chicken was ok, the pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy was actually the best thing on the hot bar. There weren’t many veggies to choose from, the catfish was soggy and disappointing – which broke my heart because I love catfish. There weren’t any dessert options other than jello, cottage cheese, fruit and some pasta salads. The tea was kinda bleh and the floors were disgusting. The only positive thing out of this experience was the welcoming staff – they were friendly and attentive the entire time we were there. For the price we paid, we expected far better food and a larger variety.

I ordered from the menu
My baked potato was microwaved to death, couldn’t even eat the ends they were so hard.
Broccoli florets were also over microwaved black spots where the microwave burned them, they were chewy and tough.
Salad bar was ok, no black olives, and only non dairy dressing was oil and vinegar.

Our service was super-friendly. We were sat promptly. We chose the buffet. Prices are very reasonable. It’s a great value for the money. The food was not bad. Some items were bland, like the macaroni and cheese and the mashed potatoes, but the fried chicken was on-point! We are traveling through the area and were looking for a quick bite, so this was a great idea. Desserts are separate and at an additional charge. See pictures. Overall, we enjoyed dining here.

We have always eaten at Shoney’s as a kid, so when I discovered this one still around in Franklin I was absolutely delighted! What amazing memories flooded back as I walked in the doors. The food was actually pretty good, only had one item that had been sitting out for a while. Hey I get it. The tea was also a tad off, not very sweet like someone messed up the sugar. I work in food service myself I know people make mistakes. Overall I would have to say it was well worth the very reasonable price and I thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The smell the bar all like it used to be as a kid. The food was good and we will be back the next time we are in the area! I hope it stays around we plan to visit more often.

We had such a great experience here! The service was amazing — everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Our server checked on us often without being overbearing, and everything came out quickly. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for great food and even better service!

My husband asked me what I wanted for my Birthday, I told him that I wanted to drive to Shoney’s in Franklin and have breakfast. We live right outside of Athens so the drive is 2 hours. It is well worth the trip!!! The food is always excellent and fresh. It is the closest to grandma cooking that I can get. The ladies there are to be commended!!!!! Thanks for the best birthday gift.!!!!

The breakfast bar at Shoney’s is a major source of nostalgia in my family, and this place definitely makes all the memories live up to the hype.
The staff are all super friendly, your typical country waitresses who call you Hon and Sugar and make you feel welcome. The breakfast bar is simple yet perfect with both hot breakfast food, a salad bar, and some light desserts.
I come here every time I visit Franklin, and haven’t been let down yet!

Stopped in thinking buffet but not much on it we liked. Salad bar was very nice though. Bar had chicken, turkey and what looked like fish nuggets(not our thing). Usual fixings, green beans mashed taters and such. Service was good and friendly. I ordered the all American burger with onion rings, more rings would have been great, 5 or 6 onion rings is all I got. Wife had club sandwich with fries, she shared with the grandson and me. It was very good. I would recommend either dish.

Good tasty food, but a short menu at the buffet side, we could have appreciated a bit more variety of dishes to choose from. Mac and Cheese was amazing! The food temperature wasn’t cold nor hot, it was kind of room temperature and I could have preferred hotter food. Other than that it was good, staff is really nice and attentive. Clean bathroom and they have gloves to use at the buffet, masks enforced and hand sanitizer everywhere. You can also order from the menu. Kids friendly, high chairs and coloring books and crayons.
