We were genuinely surprised to find a Japanese restaurant in Tamworth serving food of this quality. The tempura prawns in particular were so fresh and flavourful that we ended up ordering them again at the end of the meal. The bibimbap was superb – really tasty and satisfying. If I’d known it came with cucumber I would have asked for it without, but that’s just personal preference. The Asahi was crisp and refreshing, and paired perfectly with the food.
The only slight downside was the toilets – the men’s could do with a bit of a refresh. Aside from that, the service was attentive, warm and friendly throughout. One small note: if you’d like to leave a tip, bring cash as they’re unable to add gratuity to card payments.
We’ll definitely be back and are looking forward to trying more of the menu.

Went in for lunch and the food was delicious! Got a Mix Sushi Platter for me and my partner for ≈£30 and it was the perfect amount with an excellent selection of sushi. (The picture below, we had eaten 2 pieces already). The Japanese pancakes (Dorayaki) and cheesecake was so lovely too! I adore Dorayaki.

First time visiting the place, absolutely amazing food, very fresh and tasty! Couldn’t get any better, highly recommended! We will definitely come back here again, one of the tastiest and best sushi rolls. Keep it up!

Finally got to return to Shokudo and I am so glad I got to try the food again!
Extremely tasty food, friendly staff and a beautiful atmosphere.
We had the pork gyoza, pork yaki udon and pork bibimbap and it was so so tasty. All the food was fresh and full of flavour with the perfect level of spice.
I would also recommend the virgin mojitos, they were beautifully sweet and I love that the offer includes non-alcoholic versions as well.
We will be back!

Made a reservation but didn’t need to, there still was some space. Nice atmosphere and decorations. Me and my wife had Takoyaki, Spicy duck ramen, chicken karaage ramen and some cocktails. Everything was amazing and didn’t have to wait long either. Will definitely return when we’re in the area again

From the moment we arrived at Shokudo we knew we were in for a spectacular meal.
We were warmly greeted and once I confirmed our booking, we were given the “private room” which made us feel well looked after from the start, and a lovely way to enjoy our favourite food. Just as a note for others, the parking is located near to the restaurant and the allocated spaces are numbered “one”.
Once we sat down the private area was beautifully decorated with very authentic flowers, pictures, ornaments, and even a running fountain. The only aspect of the room which I could suggest to be improved was the lighting, which could match the rest of the restaurant, as it was quite bright and I do feel the softer and more colourful lighting would make it even nicer.
The wait to order drinks was quick and whilst trying to decide what to order we were given really helpful advice and I felt everything on the menu (including the desserts at the end of the mains by a different waitress) were very well explained and exactly what we were wanting. Almost as soon as we had both put our menus down the waitress came over and took our order. This was then effortlessly brought out to us as and when each dish was ready piping hot (or cold!) and each tasting more delicious than the last.
The service throughout was very relaxed and I never felt like I was trying to get anyone’s attention, or gasping for a drink. We were literally in and out within an hour but it felt as though we had been there for much longer, and never once did it feel rushed, shortened or not fully experienced. I also want to add another note, when the bill came we wanted to give them a 12% tip for such a delightful meal and exemplary service, however unfortunately we learnt that tips are CASH ONLY! The nearest cashpoint is a drive away so please, when visiting Shokudo, ensure you have something on you as we were gutted we couldn’t show our appreciation for such a pleasant experience in that way. However, I know for sure that we will be back in no time, tip in hand, thirsty for more!

I came in here on my own for lunch, had no idea what to order so I asked waitress and she spent time with me explaining the menu. The food I ordered was fresh, and very tasty, didn’t need anything adding to it.
