Apps, the takoyaki was good and the Benito on top was a nice treat and added a nice smokey taste. We had the pork gyoza which were as good as any I’ve had. But the highlight as mentioned above were the pork buns! Best pork buns I’ve had and I’ve been around the block when it comes to pork buns.
The ramen was very good, my wife had the shio beef ramen and I had the tan tan spicy ramen. Both were very loaded with all the goodies you would expect from a good ramen, the broth on then both were excellent and I liked the tan tan broth a little better.
The best part about this place was the price points. For this quality of ramen the prices were very good for the bowls and and apps. We got three apps, actually truth is we got four because we couldnt leave without having a second round of those pork buns. The price was under 80 bucks for all of this which was great. Definitely get out to this place if you’re able, worth every penny. Five stars all around.
My girlfriend and I have been hooked for over 6 months now, and I can confidently say Shokudo Ramen is the best ramen spot in New Jersey hands down. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is warm and welcoming.
Jay is an absolute legend behind the counter – friendly, fast, and genuinely passionate about what he does. He remembers us every single time, makes killer recommendations, and just makes the whole experience feel amazing 10/10. Top-tier service that you rarely see anymore.
Now, the food? In my personal opinion it can rival any Michelin star establishment. We’ve worked our way through almost the entire menu and there has NOT been a single miss
Everything is made with insane attention to detail and love. The noodles have the perfect bite, the broths are deeply flavored (you can taste the hours that went into them), and the portions are generous without being overwhelming.
If you live in Hackettstown or anywhere in the state of New Jersey make the trip. Shokudo isn’t just great ramen… it’s an experience. Jay and the team are killing it, and we’re already planning our next visit (probably tomorrow).
Wife and i wanted some ramen and sushi for lunch and this place came up in a search. Minutes from Mansfield plaza- it is a newly built cozy establishment.
From the moment you walk in – you can tell how much attention, care, love and detail was invested into this place!!!
Very authentic yet not overdone design. Open space with plenty of windows. Everything from utensils and chop sticks to take home containers feels expensive and not generic.
Staff is attentive, friendly and cares!
Food – fresh fresh fresh!!! Tasty!
I had seafood udon ramen and wife had kimchi ramen and we shared pink lady roll. Again – super fresh!
And you would think they would be expensive and they are NOT!
Very reasonable pricing.
Verdict – help them stay in business and grow… you wont be disappointed.
Unfortunately, the ramen itself was disappointing, especially for the price. I ordered the Miso Ramen with fried chicken. The broth lacked flavor and the chicken tasted and looked exactly like basic Tyson-style chicken as if it was taken right from the package and cut up. Just a very bland ramen and no very thought out.
However, the place itself had a cool anime style and was clean and the server was polite and attentive. I’d come back for the bao and sushi, but if ramen is what you’re after, this spot might disappoint.
We went again recently and still enjoyed the food and service very much.. definitely a good place as well if laying off the carbs
It’s been a while since we visited.
Service is prompt and courteous. Food is good, including appetizers, ramen and poke bowls.
Prices are good considering the current market.
Update 5/20/24
Food was freshly prepared and good as expected.
However the server seemed but stressed – not sure why, restaurant was not busy at the time of our visit.
Good ramen in a casual atmosphere. It takes time to arrive because it’s made fresh while you wait.
Good presentation of the dish.
Good selection of Ramen and appetizers.
If you are looking for casual and good food….stop by.
Free parking in front of the building.
Shokudo ramen could be a bit saltier, but that is my personal preference – I’ve added a bit of soy sauce.
Take out is also offered.
