Excellent meal. Exactly what you’d expect, but done really well. Super sweet and attentive server. Large portion. We are pleased.

I love this place, it’s awesome! The staff is always super friendly, and the food is always very good. It barely costs more than fast food, but it’s way better and they give generous portions. If you enjoy Japanese food, I highly recommend it.

Shoku in Blountville has been going downhill for quite some time, but today was by far the worst. I waited a HOUR for a to go order they said would be ready in 30 minutes. They didn’t care, they didn’t offer me anything for the inconvenience. The staff member told me to have a nice day when I complained, dismissing my time they wasted. It was very disrespectful.
While I am there waiting I ran into some of my friends. They go up to pay with their receipts and because the party was over eight they were charged a gratuity fee of 20%, which did not surprise me. But on top of that fee there was a $.53 hospitality fee. When I asked what that fee was for, the cashier said it was the fee the system charged to use it. Not the credit card use fee but the fee there internal system charges to use a Point of Sale System. How is that fair to the customer? We are already struggling to even go out to eat, let alone get more fees added to our bills.
Bottom line-Shoku has been less and less customer service oriented for a long time but now they have lost my business entirely and I hope my friends also. No customer should have to wait a hour for a to go order from a business who doesn’t care they wasted your time nor should you be charged because that business chooses to use a POS system.
So if you do decide to go there be prepared for high prices, an additional .53 cents and possibly a really long wait followed by the kind of customer service that told me to NEVER RETURN.

I will be going back! The atmosphere was amazing the food was fantastic and the waitress she was an absolute gem. I have never experienced a Japanese restaurant like this. I would highly suggest going and trying them if you haven’t.

A good restaurant that has declined. In the past Shoku was a place where the food was delicious and the service was friendly. Over the last year the food became inconsistent – several times the meal was so salty the food was difficult to eat. I always returned to Shoku hoping the food would better than my last time. Sometimes it improved, other times it did not. Tonight was the last time I will dine at Shoku. The restaurant had ran out of soup with no substitutions offered. I found a bone fragment in my teriyaki chicken and rice. My server never returned after taking my order. I had been ready to leave for some time. the owner saw me stand up and anticipated my walking to the register and grabbed my ticket. Finally, the girl that rang me up asked how my meal was. I told her I was disappointed there was no soup and nothing else substituted. She said “that’s the way it is” and I replied “but you are still charging me the same price even though I didn’t get everything included” and she walked off. And so did I. Goodbye Shoku!

Have went three times once ate no problems great food. Second came mid day couldn’t eat because an odd time they close. Third time came at 8:39 and was turned away because they close at 9. If you want to close early close early. I’ll never be back too much of a hassle

Shoku is one of our favorite places! Cooked to order, but fast with service. Portions are generous and the food always tastes great! Try the soup – it’s way better than most!

I would have given a five months ago.. BUT, the last couple of times I have gotten food it has been very oily.. I don’t know if they have a new cook or what! I came to review hoping they would see this and go back to less greasy/oily!

Must be nice to be so busy and have so much business that you constantly take the phone off the hook so people can’t order.
