This is truly one of the best Japanese restaurants out there . You can really feel the care and heart that goes into the food. I’ve heard it’s family owned, and it shows. The hot dishes are incredibly comforting, full of flavor, and clearly made with attention to quality. The sushi is also excellent, with plenty of affordable options that don’t compromise on taste.
They’ve been around for quite a while, and the owners are genuinely kind, welcoming, and accommodating. It’s the kind of place you can bring your family to and create great memories together .
The only downside is the atmosphere. The restaurant feels a bit old, the menus show years of use, and some plates and utensils have visible scratches. Not suitable to bring your first date .That said, none of this takes away from the food or the experience. Overall, this is absolutely a must try in Victoria

My younger sister and I love sushi and came across Shizen. All employees were lovely and the restaurant is very family-friendly oriented. The food was extremely fresh and absolutely delicious. We had a hard time figuring out what our favourite roll was because they were all so amazing! It’s so nice that it is a local family-owned restaurant. This is our new spot to go.

Jimmy, the owner, never fails to make our experience exceptional. His rolls are hands-down some of the best we’ve ever had, and they’re completely unique to this location. You can tell he puts care and expertise into every dish he serves.
Eriko’s service is nothing short of outstanding. She’s quick, attentive, and has a way of making you feel like the most important guest in the room. She ensures that we’re comfortable and well looked after every time, which really elevates the whole dining experience.

This Japanese restaurant is a great find for sashimi lovers. The assorted sashimi(large) is a highlight — you get nine kinds of fresh, high-quality sashimi, beautifully arranged and generously portioned.
The rolls are also worth trying. The Unagi Roll is rich and flavorful, and the Vancouver Roll has a nice combination of textures and taste. Everything was fresh, and the overall presentation was clean and thoughtful.
Service was friendly and efficient, making it a place I’d definitely return to.

Good sushi, fast service! I give it 4 stars as it is casual/ not top refined decor or finished or elegant plating , but it’s great value and they do a few improved than typical.places, like having eggplants and mushrooms ( rather than just root vegetables) in their tempura. They have the basic drink (2 wines sake cold or hot), but not extended menu. I would go back with friends or casual eat 🙂

We have good sushi in Washington, but usually sushi anywhere in BC is next level. Honestly expected better. We ordered bunch of different ones and on all, the fish looked like it’s a bit dried up. As if it was cut not 5 minutes ago but more like couple of hours. Service was fine. Location and atmosphere also just fine. Only other things is paper menus. OMG those things were handled by thousand hands. They looked disgusting. Need to print new ones ASAP.
