Looking for a hardy straight forward breakfast? This is your place. Chicken fried steak was well seasoned with great breading. Hash browns had a good crisp to them and the bacon was smokey and cooked perfectly.

Lunch 10/8/25: This must have been an off-day. The restaurant was short staffed. And they ran out of the chicken breast for the chicken burger. Chicken strips were substituted instead, which were ok. The cheese overpowered the chicken. Not sure what the au jus was for. The chili bowl was very good. The decaf coffee was good, but it took 3 requests to get a refill. The decor was interesting…

The reviews and funky décor pulled us in, but the food and service will have us coming back. Everyone was super friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. The vibe is old-school, with fun decorations from past eras that give it a ton of character.

I went with a tuna sandwich—simple, right? But the way it was made showed the cook really cares. The bread was perfectly toasted, just the right crunch, and the tuna salad was flavorful and balanced with the tomato. I also tried the cheesy enchilada soup, which hit the spot and tied the whole meal together.

For a place with a straightforward menu, they nail it. If you’re in Port Angeles, definitely worth stopping in and trying it out!

Don’t eat here
We were visiting this area and picked this place based on tue Google reviews. My boyfriend wanted corned beef hash. He says were ok not great at all, I had a pancake with blueberries which they forgot my blueberries and had to wait a while for them. Pancake as the blueberries were frozen and just warmed up, dry pancake and half frozen blueberries. My bf always takes pictures of food everywhere, this time he said it looks terrible and it tasted as such. The place is a nice place with caracter but I would not ever consider to stop here eating based on reviews and how food tastes.

Visiting in town from Vancouver, Washington. We like to eat at local establishments rather than the big chain restaurants. We drove by Shirley’s in the morning, the parking lot was packed. They share the parking lot with a pizza place and it did not open for several hours, so we knew we were at the right place. We were welcomed in by a friendly staff and were seated right away. The chicken fried steak with hash browns and gravy were my go to, and it did not disappoint. My wife got the Shirley’s breakfast burrito, daughter got the strawberry Belgian waffle and son finished out the order with bacon and eggs. All of our meals were cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. The interior decor adds a nice touch and brought back some memories of the past when we would point out to our kids “Wow, we had that in our house growing up”. We will add Shirley’s to our list the next time we return.

The biggest draw to this diner is their interior decor. The exterior doesn’t look like much and honestly, we thought about finding another place to eat when we pulled up to the parking lot. But the interior decoration had a lot of character. They have many license plates hanging from the ceiling, donated by visitors over the years. An impressive collection that covers all 50 states and a couple of countries. They also have various currencies and a train that periodically goes through the top of the walls. They definitely have some of the most interesting decor of any diners I’ve been to.

The food itself didn’t have anything special. Most items were cooked well but the ingredients were pretty basic with very minimal spice. We were surprised that we ended up paying more here than at black bear diner given that we got way more food there and the food was better there as well. Value for the money didn’t quite seem to be there which is why it’s getting a lower rating for me.

The service and staff were very friendly and accommodating. I would come back for the decor and service but maybe not the food.

The true vibe of Port Angeles lives here! The nicest food servers!!! Great coffee. Excellent hash. Perfect iced tea. It is very casual and the place has been “well loved” so if you’re a city slicker, you might not “get” this place.
