Loved the Shipyard Tavern! The lobster roll was delicious, with a generous portion of fresh lobster meat. The best I’ve ever had. The clam chowder was brimming over with clams. The wait staff was friendly. And the view of the port was lovely. Great meal. Great ambience. Highly recommended!

The Shipyard Tavern is in the old Perriwinkles/Riptide location on the causeway. Nice inside, and the nautical theme carries well. Menu is diverse – beer selection is strong, and the service was excellent. Bar area seats about 20 and has 3 televisions and a great view of the Essex River from one side. Couple booths and a decent sized dining area too. Worth a visit…

The food here is fantastic as both of us had the appetizer of bang bang shrimp and the spice was perfect. We both chose the lobster pie for our entree and it was full of lobster. We topped it off and shared a delicious strawberry shortcake.
Our server Chris was excellent as he stayed on top of everything, and he was handling numerous tables.
We are from Missouri and we were looking for good seafood but our hotel is in Andover and everything we were finding here is fried seafood.
Glad we drove the 40 minutes to Shipyard Tavern!

My first time there. Visiting from out of state. Ordered a Caesar salad with steak tips. It came as a HUGE salad with 4steaks; a TON of food. Best part? It was the best steak I’ve had in years and the salad was fantastic too. 5-star delicious food for sure. Will be back next time I’m in the area.

The food was excellent! Location is quite nice with a view on the river and fishermen who are passing by. The only thing I personally didn’t enjoy quite was the smell in the restaurant. They had some kind of special aroma which smelled to me like a hospital or something. But It might be just a personal reflection. Visit when you are in the area. The corn bread is sooo good!

Great new place on the water. There are a variety of places to sit, indoors, on the deck or at the bar. We elected to sit at the bar given the time of year. Jesse poured some great cocktails and the food is way above average. I had the shrimp and grits that rivaled anything I had in Savannah. Wife had the Tuna Nachos with great, large chunks of tuna. Wine list is varied enough to meet a variety of tastes. We had an excellent Gruner Veltliner with dinner.
This is a family run place with homemade desserts, including a great homemade blueberry cobbler. We shall return.

We got a plain burger and it had only on bun with red onions and tomatoes. Cesar salad was great. The artichokes were quite dry. Overall the vibe was good but the food has some ways to improve.

A welcome addition to Essex. Local restaurant operators have done well here with matching their food consistency, value, and quality seen in their other restaurants. Also in a scenic spot!
Yes parking is tough, but it’s not a huge issue. Go a little early.
