We got exactly one hour to enjoy 13 courses—no fillers like apps, miso soup, or dessert—just nigiri and hand rolls. Despite the price point, they still serve premium ingredients like hokkaido scallop and caviar.
I thought I’d still be hungry after 13 courses, but the thick-cut slices of fish were so generous that I left completely stuffed and satisfied.
My favorite courses include:
*Botan ebi uni – the shrimp was meaty, and the uni melted in my mouth
*Hokkaido scallop with truffle sauce – rich umami from the truffle
*Chutoro with pickled wasabi – buttery with a subtle kick
*Seared otoro with caviar – torching cut through the richness, making it less greasy
*Negitoro hand roll – possibly the most generous hand roll I’ve ever had
Also, If you ever search “favorite budget omakase in NYC,” Shinn East always comes up. While interaction with the chef was minimal, the pacing was perfect and we never felt rushed.
That said, while the food was strong, the service felt mediocre compared to what you’d expect from an omakase experience at this level. It wasn’t terrible, just lacked warmth and attentiveness, which slightly took away from the overall experience.
Still, if you’re going primarily for the sushi, especially creative pairings like the eel + uni, it’s worth checking out.
Only con was service: we got our food later than they had said it would be ready by (perhaps bc we got it at their opening at 2pm, despite gmaps stating it opened at 1), and they were not the friendliest about it.
Overall would come here again

We ordered the 13 course omakase ($69). Each piece was pretty good, with my favorite being the Hamachi, O-toro, and Hotate. However, I remember the sushi tasting better the first time I went (this is my second time), and I don’t think I would consider this to be above average in terms of my other omakase experiences. While the sushi pieces were good, I’ve had better at other places. For the price, it’s pretty good value but the taste is about average in terms of omakases. Overall, I would recommend trying at least once for the value, but I probably wouldn’t be back often.
