Dining experience felt very intimate. Only our group and another group were there. Worth the cost. Do not let the external location fool you, it is a lovely experience, and the food is excellent.
Food is spectacular. The chef explained every dish that he prepared and shared a lot of stories and jokes as well.
Well fed and well entertained. It would run you $250 a head. But if you gotta do omakase, you gotta do it at Shin!
We enjoyed speaking with the sushi chef and it was a delight hearing each story and how each fish and dish was specially and carefully curated from different parts of the world.
We thought the whole cooked small crab was unique and it tasted like chips as he described.
Dessert is extra and as always, I recommend trying both.
I hope to come back for another special occasion, soon! Making a reservation was really easy and the owners are very accommodating. I was able to call on off hours to make the reservation a few days in advance.
His wife is the server, she is on top of everything, she is refilling glasses before they are empty, and very friendly.
I won’t post any pictures of the food, you have to experience the taste on your own.
Shin Sushi is a must!
It’s a small place with very limited seats available everyday. This means having to be patient as you try to grab a spot for yourself but believe me – it’s worth it.
They have an excellent Sake selection our server recommended very delicious sake to us.
Make a reservation. Get there early! Do not be late! This is an experience just as much as it is about the food. You can tell the chef really cares about the way he prepares everything. When we came in he had our plates ready set for exactly how many were coming. It was a very intimate special experience.
I haven’t been to Japan but this felt like I was there and experiencing something very special.
Absolutely blown away by this place just do yourself a favor and make a reservation.
I felt compelled to write this review after my recent visit to Japan and the experience I had with its incredible cuisine.
After seeing Shin Sushi in the Michelin guide, I decided to book a reservation (required) for my birthday last year. The experience was quite a memorable one. The décor and general vibe of the restaurant certainly doesn’t scream Michelin star, but the food more than makes up for this.
The meal is Omakase style and started with an assortment of seasonal Japanese vegetables and small bites, each one unique and delicious. Then the sushi began and unsurprisingly was the star of the show. The chef took great care with each and every piece, expertly forming the sushi, explaining where the fish came from and what it meant to him personally. Every bite was bliss, washed down with what is the best miso soup (or any soup for that matter) I’ve ever had – truly exceptional depth and balance of flavors. There was no dish that left me even slightly disappointed and dessert is highly recommended.
It was extremely apparent that the chef wanted to provide the best culinary experience he could to each guest at his 8-seat sushi bar. On top of that, he was very friendly and a joy to converse with/learn more about.
I felt compelled to write this review after my recent visit to Japan, where it was my mission to find excellent sushi almost everyday. I have to say that nothing we tried in Japan was equivalent to the meal we had at Shin Sushi (how lucky Angelenos are to have such incredible cuisine from so many different cultures).
What a treat, I hope to be back soon.
