The uramaki rolls (the shibuya one anyway) was definitely worth it in my opinion.
Came in yesterday (Saturday afternoon) with the girls and had such a lovely experience. It’s a small restaurant, but makes it feel extra cosy — we ended up staying for three hours just chatting because we were so comfortable..
The service was friendly and attentive, with no wait time at all — our food arrived almost instantly. Overall, such a relaxing and enjoyable spot. Definitely worth a visit!
The sushi roll was the star of the show, with the other dishes being decent. The tempura batter was too thick, so we could barely taste the delicate flavours of the crab. The ramen was a joke in many ways and looked nothing like the menu picture:
– The pork was dry, and I was served two square pieces with some dry crunchy bits that fell of the main pieces. Sizing was okay, but chef could have put more effort into shape (usually round slices) and texture.
– The eggs were hard boiled with a gray band around the yolk
– The broth was dilute
– The noodles were slightly overcooked
When I tried to feedback my disappointment to the waiter, he stated:
“The pork is grilled- it’s supposed to be dry” and “The egg is supposed to be hard boiled”. I was quite disappointed at this response as the restaurant clearly does not take criticism well, especially looking at other google reviews. To the restaurant, please google ramen eggs – you will find they are soft boiled and sometimes even soy flavoured. I would also advise against telling anyone that any meat is supposed to be dry.
Another point is false advertising.
1. There are no menus online which actually reflect the current prices of the dishes- prices have increased by 1-2 pounds storewide since the last posted menus 2 years ago. So you’d have to enter the shop and be disappointed by the increased prices.
2. There is a 10% service charge added to the bill that is not advertised anywhere on the menu. I am not a fan of hidden fees, especially at a place that already downplays its cost. In the UK, service charge is legally optional and mandatory to be advertised… why is it not in this establishment?
Overall I felt quite robbed of my Japanese night out experience. If you come here, stick to the sushi and expect to pay more than you think you will.
Everything is made to order meaning it is fresh
Would highly recommend
I ordered a wasabi shrimp takeaway as I’ve been craving for it since the last time I tried it with my friend. The dish was freshly made and served and is even still crispy when I got back home. Excellent! But, more sauce please next time, I love the sauce!
Edit for 14 Feb
ok, since my not-so-pleasant sushi experience last time, I haven’t done there until my friend expressed her cravings for the shrimp there. The food quality was better than the one I bought before and the wasabi shrimp was delicious, we even requested for adding more sauce on the shrimp. I gave the red dragon roll a chance again and it came out well, texture of the fish is normal and it did not let me down.
But still one thing about the sashimi rice bowl, there were still small short hard substances like fish bones in the salmon. It could be better if the cook could be aware of this as all 3 pieces of salmon have the same problem and the tiny “bones” can actually be pulled out by hand.
Original
I ordered a red dragon sushi roll takeaway today but the texture of salmon on the sushi is very strange, it is hard and as if it has been stored in a freezer for a long time that it lose all its water when it’s being defrosted again after a long period of time.
The sushi is temperature so it has nothing to do with whether the fish is fully defrosted or not.
I’m quite disappointed with it because it has always been my joy to enjoy sushi there everytime I had a hard day. The shop should have correct estimation of how much ingredients they should stock before hand to avoid these unpleasant experiences and situations.
Highly recommend the Red Dragon Roll, and the Mango and Cream cheese sushi, but everything looked delicious!
The food was brilliant, and served very quickly! We went all out as it was a birthday, but it was affordable! They have their menu pictured online.
If only I lived in Exeter, I’d be here all the time!!! Genuine hidden Japanese gem! Thank you
