We had such a wonderful experience! My family and I have been going to hibachi/tepanyaki restaurants for 20+ years now and our experience at Shima tops the list thanks to the absolute expertise and warmth of Laysel and Ana.
Upon arrival we were immediately greeted by Ana our waitress who was extremely kind and resourceful. She was fast with our orders yet never made us feel rushed, and sparkled the conversation with jokes that made the evening so much more fun!!
We then received the hibachi experience by chef Laysel who was truly a master of his craft. He took his time with us and made us feel heard as he honored all the little things we requested for our meal. The food was excellent quality and clearly prepared with love and diligence. But beyond that Laysel entertained us the whole time with skillful displays of tricks at the hibachi grill, and anecdotes that personalized the entire experience. He really is a leader, he has a way with people and made us feel right at home.
Truly Laysel and Ana both made our visit to Shima an extraordinary encounter. What a dynamic duo. I cannot recommend Shima more and especially with Ana as your waitress and Laysel as your chef. They’ve set the bar incredibly high!!

Wonderful place for our 30th anniversary dinner! Laysel was our chef and kept us entertained and well fed and Franklin did fantastic keeping up with the appetizers and drinks! 10/10 would done here again!

We had such a fabulous experience—delicious food, amazing ambiance, and GREAT service. Our server, Ana was so sweet and accommodating. Daniel at the sushi bar made a beautiful and really fun sushi boat for us! They were both so so kind, definitely coming back…and more often!

I went here with my family of six the food was very good however the proportions were kind of small for the price, but that could be because of my Missouri origins. I especially enjoyed my Sandbar special due to the tempura being very well cooked.

Sam was our Hibachi Chef- soooo wonderful and fun! He made our evening with his great show and friendly personality. We missed having the more traditional yum-yum sauce, but otherwise the food was amazing and plentiful. Would definitely recommend for others- 4 of our group were between the age of 18 and 22 and they had a great time. My husband ordered sushi from the bar and enjoyed this as well. We will be back

Went for nigiri sushi and sushi roles around 5:30 on a Thursday. Were seated promptly and ordered drinks, sushi and edamame. The edamame was well salted but over cooked. The sushi was fresh but the cuts of fish were poorly prepared. The presentation of the sushi rolls was good. The food is pricey relative to quality (resort food usually is). The teppanyaki tables seemed to be having a good time. The view of the Gulf is unrivaled on Sanibel while dining. It’s a little better than supermarket or gas station sushi and is the only sushi bar on the Island. There is also a mandatory 22% gratuity automatically added to the bill.

Today was my 70th birthday. Decided to spend the weekend at Sundial and take my family to dinner at Shima. I booked the table over a week in advance.. Disaster. table was over booked so three of my group were not even around the table.The hostess seated us, but only five were actually around the hibachi table.. MANAGER rude, Hostess rude, in short never made it past seating. Awful. LEFT and went to Timbers and had a wonderful night. I had made a reservation . Confirmed reservation by phone , even spoke with front desk, banquet manager, and chef concerning menu, but manager and hostess claimed I did not.. I then went to front desk to verify and they came to manager to confirm, but he continued to make a scene that he was not informed. Needless to say, the mood was not celebratory and my grandchildren were crying. Worst customer service.
